Don't give a darn aboot what anyone else thinks. No judgement, enjoy![]()
So I completed assembly of the splitter yesterday. No issues other than a bit of effort routing the hydraulic hoses so there were no interferences when moving the splitter beam to vertical etc. Added engine oil (Castrol Extended Edge Performance 5W-30) and then started filling the tank with CAM2 Promax AW32 hydraulic oil. The first 5-gal pail (white colored cap on pour spout) was light amber and clear, just like motor oil - all good. Opened the next 5-gal pail (grey colored cap on pour spout) and added three to four glugs and noticed the hydraulic fluid to be yellow and cloudy/hazy, and stopped. Opened the third and last container (grey cap on pour spout) and started adding and noticed the same yellow and cloudy/hazy appearance and stopped.Picked up the log splitter today and started putting it together on my trailer. Overall, a heavy weight unit. A couple of minor issues:
Will complete the assembly on my trailer and use my tractor to tow it off the trailer.
- The Honda engine was installed slightly crooked. I loosened the 4X engine mounting bolts and squared it up.
- They recommend the wheel lug nuts be torqued in 3 stages, 25 ft-lb, 40 ft-lb and then 65 - 75 ft-lb. I used 65 ft-lb for the final torque and I thought I was going to snap the studs off. Thankfully, it worked.
- The beam, cylinder and wedge assembly weighs 350 lbs. So I will tackle full assembly in a few days.

3X 5-gal Napa Premium AW32 hydraulic fluid. So I completed assembly of the splitter yesterday. Called Rural King this morning and let them know. They were fantastic and advised to bring the fluid back and they would credit my purchase price. I will call CAM2 CS this morning and see if anything had changed on their end, etc.
Now I have to drain what I added - a bit over 5-gals and search for alternate fluid. Thankfully, the fluid remains in the tank only and was not circulated. Testing will have to wait.

I haven't used a scope in 8 years. About the most technical tool I use is a voltage meter.A digital Oscilloscope. Had an analog one for years, but that was long gone.
