they found the guy who shot up the Brown engineering building, apparently he then went to MIT and killed a
professor there two days later, and then committed suicide.
not a top moment for law enforcement
Did something change overnight? 11pm news yesterday reported they had identified the "person of interest", and a "suspected link" between the two events, but wouldn't go as far as asserting any high confidence in either area.

<-- usually watches the 11pm news on YouTube at 6am :ROFLMAO:

Good Morning
60° outside, that should be the high for the day. We have gotten an inch of rain so far, supposed to get some kick ass winds as the front passes us and the temperatures head back below freezing.

Yesterday was mostly in the shop, the alpaca survived the vet’s visit. The interesting project of the day was removing the ignition switch from the steering column on a friend’s Honda Civic. It was installed with bolts that have the heads break off after installation, making removal interesting.

Turns out after fighting with a sharp chisel , and deciding to drill them out, that they are LH thread, and when the drill bit grabbed, it spun them right out. No wonder the chisel didn’t work!

Did a little 3D modeling, adding to my collection of shapes and techniques. I have a long way to go, but I’m getting the basics down.

Day ended with joining a group of friends for dinner and conversation at a local pub. We have been getting together on the Thursday before Christmas for a long time. We were trying to figure it out, but we think it’s been 56 years. Sadly the group is getting smaller as you would expect.

Not much planned for today, I probably could take the carryall down to the woodshed for a load of firewood if the weather allows. Nothing else planned, but it’s always interesting to see what the day brings.

Yeah... no kidding! Wonder what happened recently to trigger these events, on a 25 year old grudge?

You have to reach even farther back for his affiliation with the professor at MIT. They were undergrad students together in Portugal, which I'm guessing would have been 1990's?

Good Morning to All Who Celebrate! Currently 49° heading to a high of 52° with rain. It feels very tropical outside after all of the cold weather. Just one of those false starts to spring we get a few times in winter.

Got all of the Christmas shopping done, deliveries all scheduled and set. Got through the workweek okay, still busy as the corporate managers wrap up Christmas parties at all the stores (Lookit what I did VP! I deserve more recognition/money/praise) Next week and the following is going to be a ghost town by comparison.

I woke up this morning with a bit of a sore throat, currently trying to drink enough water so that goes away before the holidays. Oh well, I'll either go into the holidays sick or come out of it sick. So hopefully this is just getting it out of the way early.

Goals for this weekend: As little as possible, do a good job of making sure the chair doesn't go anywhere.

Y'all stay safe out there and be well! No slips and falls when this turns to ice!
Praying for all ailing and recovering!

Morning all, 55 going to 57 and already 1"+ of rain since last night.
Got another of the big Christmas light bulbs drilled and wired for the 10w LED.

Been up since 4, budget issues at work have me stressed out, I guess that's why they call it work.

We heard this year is our last to gather at a friends for Christmas eve. They have been hosting this since the 80's . They have kids and grand-kids, so moving it around to allow more of their kids to attend. We will see them on a different night starting next year.

Tomorrow is the musical at Bucks County playhouse, about a dozen of us going. Should be fun, wish I could drink as I don't like musicals very much.

We went over some Christmas traditions at work yesterday with the people in the meeting representing Portugal, Brazil, UK, Romania and I from the US. Fun to hear the different things people do, but the UK ones I knew well. some are pretty common, like caroling. King cake or fruit cake of one sort or another.

be well.

50 deg. A line of storms blew thru this morning with high winds, woke me up. .5" rain so far, none right now. No wind now. This afternoon more high winds.

Neighbor texted something of theirs blew away, I haven't seen it yet. Usually my tree line down over the hill catches blow aways.

Went and sat on porch a little bit with BB on my lap, but he went out into mud, came back and now i have paw prints on my jeans. lol

internet was down for awhile with the storms going thru. Finally got back online. Seems it's my router talking to my starlink, was able to get online by going directly to starlink..

turned pellet stove off.

He saved the state a ton of money prosecuting him. There is zero sympathy for cowards like him from this quarter.

Wind gust just started here , rain went horizontal for a few minutes.

We found my budget at work, it was there, stress level reduced until January :)

that sounds like great news Ken.
half my back yard under water, appears system moving out

Dennis, I think I read they traced the firearms used back to Brown but don't know.
Another day and we will probably hear all the facts.
Was strange and disconcerting how slow the info came out on this, how long it took to post
that pic of the perp walking by on camera.
I have read other articles where the Brown campus will now triple their cameras and there goes a chance
for an unseen smooch on the campus lawn. And I think they are doubling the security force.
Perp shot up and killed people he didn't know, who did absolutely nothing bad to him.
Yes Bill, no sympathy. Sounds like the guy snapped in midlife.

Late to the party, but it has been a busy and blessed week. 2 of my student workers are graduating. 1 will stay near and work on his masters, 1 has a job offer about 100 miles away. Both were worried about passing this one tough class that has a relatively high failure rate. They both passed. They were on a senior capstone team who's project got awarded the top prize in the whole College of Engineering. Over 115 other teams competed. Judges were faculty, outside business people too. They won a $2500 award. They had a lot of drama due to having to change from an AC motor drive to a mechanical spring system. Their project was a portable golf club tester. A faculty professor shut them down on Nov 13th when he found out their AC motor was needing 36 volts. Said that that was not allowed in a student project. I was mad. Nothing I could do. They talked with a guy who had done something with springs before and they got cracking. It was a miracle they finished with anything. They need custom springs to get better results. But it was good to see them come back together after wanting to tear each others hair out at one point.

We had a graduation brunch for our department. And 1 of my student workers won a Service award in our program. It is so great to get to meet the parents, and see how proud they are.

The Aggie girls beat Pitt last night in volleyball.

A young man in our engineering department won The Voice overall competition.

A young lady (on the above Capstone team) won a spot in the Forbes "30 under 30", for her company. She's a jewel.

I tell the grads, "We have only given you a foundation, now you have to go out and keep learning in the real world. Work towards doing something good for society."

QUESTION: The Church exterior doors were previously stained and then lacquered. The stain that I've bought for the doors are as good a match, colour wise, as available. It is a stain with oil.

Do I actually need to lacquer or varnish after that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I vote with the UV blocker, polyurethane based marine grade varnish.
All the work is in the prep.

Wow that is tricky for Honda to do that.

Here are some threaded inserts that you can use in your plastic endeavors to take you to the next level. We use them all the time, but not for keeping airplanes flying. They hold decent, but still just plastic behind them.
I don't know which brand we use, but here is a link to something similar. You might shop around or read reviews.
Amazon.com

Hope the alpaca is ok.

Billy, glad Della ok. Sounds like she ate something.

My son is suffering from his own mistakes of missing too much school. He's having to take all his mid term high school finals instead of being exempt. Maybe that will motivate him. He's missed school 6 days from early August to now. 3 of which he had fever, but 3 were stay home and finish assignments because of procrastinating. He's still got all A's, but his Spanish might be a B he said.

Hope I haven't missed any major issues.

Y'all stay warm somehow. It is really cold. -21F at International Falls. WOW. I don't know how any wildlife can survive that.

Prayers for our team, our nation and for peace in the world.

There are rumors that many of the cameras on the Brown campus were turned off.
Will see if that is true, maybe, doubt the news will care.

Drew - I have snorkeling gear if you need it. Hope your basement stays dry.

Had some water come in around the roof/fireplace again. Have had three groups try to fix where the stone meets the roof,

Kyle - lots of great news, hope son digs in more, but As across the board is very impressive.

Thanks Buppies, how are you feeling, work all quiet for a while?
