Drinking hot coffee. 1° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 19° with mostly cloudy skies and brisk winds. Feeling better today. But another day conserving energy will not hurt me.
Trying to stay warm.

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

snow keeps coming down
looks like I'll be hunting the long underwear and will get some exercise when the sun comes up
as will some of you
I hope to get some pics and then will go brush the snow off the inflatables.
if it gets to two inches I'll get the snowblower out if only to give it some work to do, been
sitting for way too long.
three containers of ice melt in garage, wonder if any of them haven't turned into blocks of concrete.

34 and falling plus wet snow falling. Temps drop during the day, and wind chill tonight at 5F.

Ron, good decision.

Engineer, looks like a great Christmas train.

Buppies, beautiful tree. Hope Precious behaves around it.

Sodamo, we had a female Brittany do that, and kept our fingers crossed right up until we had puppies. 😁 Hope you have better luck.

Wag, never heard the term "rego"...does it mean license/registration? We have been watching a New Zealand TV series called Brokenwood. We love the way certain words are pronounced, especially with the vowel "e"...sounds very different than Aussie English.

Hike and Della swim and then more outdoor decorating with wife yesterday. Still have the tree to do inside, and today's weather will make that happen.

seems current tally is two dead, seven in critical in hospital, and two others
in shooting at Brown Univ. in providence. All students. Surprisingly little info being released.
and the guy is still on the loose which is scary.
where was campus security?

My father went there, both my oldest brother and his wife went there, when it was still
Pembroke for the ladies, and one of best friend's 102 year old mother went to Pembroke.
not sure he is going to tell her.
Personally I have no attachment to the place, my father paid full price cash, got no breaks from anyone,
and the university is very well endowed. So I've never sent them money. I'd rather support charity closer to home,
like local EMS or my church at home.

when I graduated in 1971 the whole world was nuts due to Vietnam.
Graduation was cancelled, did not get the senior parade walk, marking went to pass fail, which
in my case was wonderful since it hid a bunch of C's. I may have gotten A's in high school but this was the big
leagues and I was happy to graduate.
Having an Ivy League diploma made me a shoe in for a job at Travelers Insurance.
Those three piece suiters in Hartford were very status conscious.
and eventually to be one of their few employees ever invited to teach insurance at their training center.

I was doing data analytics long hand before we got computers, and made monthly reports on my big clients
comparing their stats to average company stats, and no one had ever done that before.
We were flooded with new data and no one had worked out how to use it all.
We were just getting rid of punch cards.
running what ifs was not a given...
but I got curious, and started doing these reports that no one else had ever seen, with trend analysis,
which impressed the big insurance agencies who were our clients, I was learning to do nice presentations,
and some of those reports got sent up to the home office.
Shortly thereafter I was brought into manager's office and told of this opportunity I was being offered.
For a guy who always wanted to teach after college, thought I'd be a professor somewhere, but with Vietnam there were
no jobs at all, so i was offered a teaching position in a very fancy training center.

today we take AI and computer generated statistics for granted.
shows you how old I am that I remember doing it all by hand, and then posted
to some early spreadsheet
you know, four lines and then a slash?
when you were so cool if you had that TI calculator
with the little red numbers

Morning all!
25 with light snow coming down.
Town has already sent the sander down our street. Driveway is still a bit slippery in spots from the last ice storm. Will have to be careful.
Good news for a change medically! New meds I'm on have cut my cholesterol numbers down to perfect 180 with my good number way up! Can't remember number right now.
6 shots in my neck Friday seem to be doing their job. Will need to get them again before insurance will pay for permanent procedure. Need to see how long these shots last first.
Looks like our week to travel out and visit sister. At least it's not that far.

Haven't been doing much maintenance wise. Have a few small projects here and at the apartment. Neck and thumbs have been keeping me down.
Made some Christmas ornaments for gifts.
IMG_3388.jpg
IMG_3390.jpg
Was nice easy work for me.
Made an ornament for the people that gave me some apple wood. I used their wood and engraved it with their info.
IMG_3384.jpg

That's it for now I guess. Don't see much happening in the next few days.
Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

I sent this to my siblings

based on public shootings in us what places of public assembly should be avoided to improve personal safety

Thinking
Searching

Improving personal safety involves a variety of awareness strategies, as mass public shootings have occurred in a wide array of locations that are part of daily life
. Data from sources like the FBI and the Secret Service indicate that attackers often have a connection to the specific location or victims, and incidents can occur almost anywhere people gather publicly.

Places that have been frequent sites of public shootings include:

  • Commercial Areas: These include workplaces, retail establishments, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. The FBI's 2023 report noted that commerce locations and open spaces were the most frequent categories for active shooter incidents.
  • Educational Institutions: K-12 schools, colleges, and universities have been targets of numerous attacks.
  • Open Spaces: Public areas such as streets, sidewalks, parks, and parking lots account for a significant percentage of incidents.
  • Government Buildings/Civic Areas: Courthouses, military bases, and other government properties have also been targeted.
  • Houses of Worship: Churches and other religious facilities have experienced mass shootings.
  • Healthcare Facilities: Hospitals and various medical facilities have seen incidents as well.

ultimately we all have to be careful ourselves and get on with life.
I did find it interesting that even in certain states where the personal protection
carry percentage is much higher, that these mass shootings keep going.
We can't seem to stop this craziness in time.

ok, to avoid being yanked, sure is a good thing that driving around in a tractor is relatively very very safe.
we don't need bullet proof glass in our tractors
but you don't want to see an upset farmer in a big tractor with a hay spear... ;)

Good morning, the low is 1 and the high going up to 10°F. Wind N 8 mph. 30% chance of flurries.

Tomorrow about noonish I will go and plow again. I pushed the east banks (driveway runs north and south) back the other day, tomorrow I will do the west banks.

mpham, do you have any wood ash? That as far as I am concerned works better than salt.

Drew, I remember quite well using manual spread sheets. We had one for our dispatch; truck number, trailer number, driver name, customer name, product, quantity, time wanted at destination, time arrived at destination, remarks. 9 columns and most of them got filled in by the dispatcher, then he would pass it on to the manager who would fill in the arrival time and remarks after he did the time.If I remember rightly the sheet itself was about 30" long and 24" wide. The dispatcher entered everything in pencil and the manager did it in pen.
Both the dispatcher and the manager would take their holidays in the winter or early spring. I would do their jobs while they were away. I couldn't make managerial decisions, but I could do the time and take messages for him.
In early spring the dispatcher who doubled as the bar tender at the Good Roads party/drunk/convention would be gone for a week and I would do his job.
We had a 800 number for the drivers to phone in on and
G-d help the man that gave that number to the customer.
I never gave it out, but I did coach the customer on how to get it after I was done on the call.

That is enough of old times.

Back to the present, have a safe day all

That report lists pretty much everywhere but our own backyards.

We can't be scared into hiding in our own caves. Be aware of you surroundings and walk with a purpose. We have to be able to enjoy life without constant fear.

Sorry. End rant.

I was just going to say that as long as you don’t go to work, school, church, concerts, restaurants or clubs you should be safe.

Reminds me of the story of the two old men, one says to the other that he is giving up smoking, drinking, women, rich food and fast cars, because he wants to live to be 100.
The other one replied “why?”

good morning, 24 and cold, lots of snow overnight

Cody on the morning walk did his zooming and was all excited about the snow. Used the cleats not taking any chances with falls.

News from Bondo beach Sidney about 11 killed in shooting. That man that disarmed one of the gun men and started to defend with his rile is amazing

Good morning TBN!!
44 this morning when I got up and the temps are already falling. 38 now. Going to be cold and windy today. My nemesis!

Worked on the .22 a little bit again and will reassemble to day and call it done.
Next up is finding the reason the Magdrill trips GFCI every time I turn it on. Ground leak is probable I guess. Only trips when I turn the magnet on as there are two separate switches. May make it a bit easier.
Nice Christmas party last night.
Me my wife and our hosts:
