Wow, that is a bunch of wood.

How long do you think you'll be working at it?

I wouldn’t dare guess. I’ve cut up, split and stacked 2-3 of those big logs and it took a while. I’ve never seen such dense oak. The rings are maybe a 1/16” apart. But the smaller stuff will go faster.

It depends how much help I get. I’ve got a 30ton splitter, my logging winch to pull them off the pile. My son and BIL will help when they can.

So the town decided it was time to take down 2 rows of ~120 yr old oaks along the road just north of my sisters house. They were starting to shed large branches into the road.

So the tree company said anyone who wants free firewood near there, they’d deliver it.

Kind of sad to see them go but they were getting dangerous. I think the brown tail moths was the final straw.

I can see from the size of those stumps that you definitely have some big wood. That pile should keep you busy for a long time !! Everyone loves free wood.

Trees don't live forever. Ideally they should remove every third one and plant another in it's before they get to the point above.

Those picture book back roads with trees interleaved together over the road are pretty when you don't have to fight them after a wind storm or a heavy snow storm.

No way! I’ve only been to coeur d Alene once and it was beautiful there. And a beautiful ride getting there from Steamboat Springs Co.

I had the privilege of working on some of that. I worked for an engineering company out of Boise for a while. We did the geotechnical work for the realignment of US-95 from Athol to Granite. There were many fatality accidents through that area, so the state re-engineered it to be a controlled access road. Unfortunately, many trees had to go. Nonetheless, in my opinion, northern Idaho is still some of the most beautiful land in this country. I was blessed to live there for a while.
