2023 Kioti RX7320pccb
This is really weird. I purchased a new Kioti RX7320 74hp. I am doing the 50hr service. I have bent 2 of the standard type filter removal tools and they have not even budged yet.
I have 1 more type coming tomorrow a 3 point type that uses a 1/2 ratchet. I am wondering would it help if i went around where it connects with a razor knife? There are 2 filters and they are about 3/8" apart so not much room.
I am not a career mechanic but I have turned a few wrenches in my day and have never seen a filter on this tight.

Help

These days many OEMs paint after filters are installed. Running razor around won't hurt. Chain or belt type wrenches (with a cheater) maybe your friend. Some of these filter can take drastic measures to break free.

I tried a chain breaker but not enough room between the 2 I will try the razor carefully and the 3 point filter removal tool, that is supposed to be here tomorrow at 4am Will see :)
Thanks for the reply

I had a bear of a time getting one of my filters off when my tractor was new. I can't remember which now, but a spin on canister, I think it was the secondary fuel filter.

In any case, I eventually realized that in addition to them installing it just WAY too tight, the filter adapter mounting bracket was jammed up tight against the rim of the filter. Simply loosening those bolts and repositioning the filter adapter 1mm fixed all that.

Get one this style. It doesn't have to be this brand. You can put a ratchet or extension and ratchet in the end of it. Slide it up so you are gripping by the base and the filter won't try to collapse/crush so much as you remove it.

Yes they can be a bear to remove, doesn't seem to matter the brand tractor. My "go to" has been the chain wrench, but I had more room. I have also used an air hammer positioned right on the base when there are machined slots on the filter base.
Definitely cut any paint that may be at the base as you plan, that can make all the the difference.

Paint doesn't lock filters in place, however, dry seals and over tightening do and that seems to be a common practice from the manufacturers for some reason. All it took, was just a few drops of oil in the filter seal.

The big hydraulic filter on my tractor wasn't painted and it still was a pain to remove and the mechanic at my dealer almost smash his hand really hard after the engine oil filter finally broke loose, again not painted.

Might be an option. Have and like them.

For tough filters I like a chain style filter wrench if space is limited. You will want one that has grooves or notches on the part that the socket goes in so it will grab. They are spendy but they grab the filter well.

if you have room I will use a pipe wrench to break them free. I have bent up (or almost bent) almost every type of oil filter wrench. Pipe wrenches, large chain wrenches, and chain filter wrenches are the best when your dealing with problematic filters in my opinion. All of my proposed options will generally wreck the filter though.

I think a big contributor to stuck filters is installing them without lubricating the seal and engine heat bakes the gasket to the block. Loosening them early, letting a little oil come out is one way to combat this.

I have a set of these:

If I can't get the filter off with a breaker bar, I use an impact wrench.

The trick is finding the right size.

Never really thought about that. Makes sense, as it's pretty universal for end users to lube the gasket when installing a new filter.
Pretty sure they wouldn't at the factory.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it... ;) plus another beef I have with factory assembly is over tightening fasteners. The shop manual gives a spec on tightening a particular fastener and the factory installation is 2-3 times that spec, stretching threads and generally making removal a real PIA.

Except the fasteners that need to be gorilla tight, like subframe mounts. Seems like they are always just past hand tight.

Interestingly enough, those are the bolts/nuts that the importer/dealer puts on the tractor as the loader mounts, wheels, ROPS and front axle (depending on the size) are installed by the importers/dealers.

I suspect they just send those bolts to the moon using impact guns, then end up stretching the threads and the bolts will never get good and tight again. Others probably just miss the bolts entirely.

Take a long screwdriver and hammer it through the center of the filter, near the base, and get after turning it off!

I bought a tractor that never had the hydraulic oil changed, I had a bear of a time getting the filter off, nearly tore the filter housing off the tractor!

The screwdriver trick has worked every time for me and I've used it a lot..

Is it wrong if it works?

Well if they don't get tight enough, I'll hammer it home with a big impact :giggle:

Guilty as charged your honor
