I’ve repaired the gearbox drive failed bearings on my 80 inch tiller and will be replacing the 90 weight gear oil with corn head grease as has been recommended and that’s what I’m going to do. I have two tubes of John Deere corn head grease to fill the gearbox. I’m looking for a suggestions on how much to put into the gearbox, should some 90 weight oil be added as well, and the best suggested method of getting the grease into the gearbox through the oil fill hole. I could figure it out on my own, but I know someone has already done it and has a Good method of putting the grease in and how much. Thanks for the help.

Assuming its the same product as pourable cotton picker grease/spindle grease, dont mix or cut it with gear oil. Fill to the fill point, and call it good.

I tried to post a response to your question but got censored so I deleted the post. No idea what the trigger was.

I removed the coupler from my grease gun and pumped it into the gear box.

I just posted one that is waiting approval.

Fill it the same as you would if you were filling it with regular gear lube or slightly over. Corn head grease when warm is like a thick gear lube. Did the gear box fail because the bearings ran dry? Just curious. Corn head grease is rated as a NLGI "0" where most will be a NLGI "2". The corn head grease will eventually run out of the tube if laid on it's side.

I think the volume of 90 wt. oil and cornhead grease are close enough to each other, to figure a 14 oz. tube of grease would be equal to about 1 pint of 90 wt oil.

you could put it into a heatable container, heat gently to over 150f then pour it through a funnel.

Tractor Supply sells a suitable grease for a brush hog gearbox, and funny thing, it isn't stored where all the other grease is at. It is stored back where the pins, shafts, and clips are stored in the back of the store for 3pt stuff.
They called it something else, but has "00" on the bottle.

Yep TSC calls it cotton picker grease and it’s 00 viscosity so just a little thinner than the 0 corn head grease. The tsc stuff comes in a quart bottle that you can squeeze in
