Grease Compatibility Hell

I would just switch to Red & Tacky, both are Polyurea based so there should be no problems with compatibility. Here is a chart from Amsoil that shows which grease bases will or will not work together.

I have likewise been using the green Lucas heavy duty grease. So you’re saying that I can switch to their red and tacky grease with no problems?

sorry. I think it might be worth thinking about switching to something more readily available.

Red and tacky is available everywhere I have looked. The green is no longer available.

So far I'm hearing that the only way to safely switch from a polyurea grease to a lithium grease is to try to pump as much new grease through and hope to remove enough of the old incompatible grease as possible to avoid damage. My problem is that I don't think that will work with some of my steering components, and my Woodmaxx snow blower specifically warns not to inject too much grease for fear of damaging the seals.

Of course I also have the option of tearing it apart and cleaning out all the existing grease, but that is not going to happen.

It is hard to believe that equipment and grease manufacturers don't provide more information to prevent customers from falling into the polyurea grease trap. It kind of pisses me off.

I just ordered a carton of John Deere Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease TY6341 via ebay.

Steering components and low speed stuff I would swap and not worry.

High speed shafts, spindle bearings and such I would try to purge the old out

I've swapped in electric motors. Just purge. Grease more often for a while and make sure you don't see any remnants of the old stuff

I just checked a few websites. It looks like Lucas green grease is now back available at Walmart and Autozone. I’m going to buy some tomorrow.

I use the Green grease in everything except the snowmobile. I use the Polaris low temp grease for them. Simple.

Sorry I made a mistake the Red & Tacky is lithium based not Polyurea, so no to change you will need to flush to old grease out.

Yall do realize any grease used on most equipment fittings get contaminated with dirt/sand/crud within minutes; and we are worried about micro additives? High speed bearings, sure, underwater usage, ok, but a loader or an adjustable top link, nah.

When some greases are mixed, they create corrosive/hard/ junk compounds.

Sell more equipment when it freezes up with solid grease.
