According to Kelly Blue Book, this is the difference between rebuilt and remanufactured;

It's still going to have the same manufacturer warranty and no matter what they do, still expect it to fail at around 130k.

Also consider that you posted this;

If you said that to the dealer they have leverage.

For reference; I bought a new, not rebuilt transmission for my '93 Dakota. It lasted just 4 months, until the first cold day we had. The pump was bad, I'd have to drive back and forth between two hills until things heated up enough for it to work.
Leverage? For what smelled no transmission fluid until we stopped and the cab filled up with smoke. Caused by the transmission fluid leaking over everything Out side of the truck. I remember My other Duramax smoked a bit during its first regen. Why would I think this one wouldn't? Transmission fluid temp should have spiked however I'm thinking it wouldn't register any itemp f there's no fluid on the temp sensor to register anything. But idk I just want to peeve wanting a new transmission.

I had a similar thing happen many years ago with a brand new GMC Safari van. It overheated driving it home, 40 miles on it. My lawyer said call bank, stop payment on my check, give dealer keys saying come get YOUR van. Which I did.
Just bought a used car for our son to drive this evening, got home (4 hours round-trip), and an hour later found it displaying "drivetrain malfunction". Apparently, this is often an indicator of a major issue, and could be the reason the prior owner traded it in... or it could be nothing but a bad sensor. :rolleyes:

Reader going into the OBD-2 port at first light, I just don't feel like dealing with it in the dark. This will also be a good excuse to have it eval'd by a third party, as I'm not trusting the seller to disclose any major problem.

It came with a full-coverage warranty, and we have 3 days to return any vehicle in PA. So, zero risk, as long as I get the issue debugged and make a determination on prognoses, relatively quickly.

you mention a drivetrain malfunction trouble light ? On the opposite spectrum, not only does my 2026:GMC Sierra have no dipstick to check transmission fluid it doesn't have a.warnimg light to warn of low transmission fluid or a drivetrain malfunction light or if it does that doesn't work either, just a temp gauge the that never once indicated an issue. So no trouble lights are on indicating anythings.wrong except after getting it towed from the dealership last night Dropping it off in in my yard while we try to figure out what to do with it, no longer moves. But no other indication It wont move when you start the engine.bsides shifting it in gear of course. If there is a foolish bright side to this I'm getting my insurance back on my 4 cylinder 5 speed winter beater with 200k for mileage and half the dash warning lights illuminated yet still runs and drives. looking forward to using that manual transmission again.

I wonder if gms in inability to provide a new replacement transmission for my new truck has anything to do with this article? Granted my 1/2 ton isn't badged or hasan Allison however They are quickly losing me as a customer for any future quite expensive purchases. Yep still peeving.

My 2011 Ram 1500 turns on the check engine light when I fill the tank full. I have a bad spot in the reostat for the tank level switch. So who'se brilliant idea was it to turn on the check engine light to tell you the gas gauge level may not be accurate. So when the float level completely breaks I will have to live with a check engine light unless I replace the very expensive fuel pump in the tank which is currently backordered nationwide, or purchase a cheaper aftermarket version which from reviews can be hit and miss long term.

Since I'm completely disgusted at how the sales manager treated and disrespected my wife at the dealership when she went in alone trying to solve a serious problem constructively and fairly yesterday. I'm continuing my peeve against gmc and there apparent inability to understand . Why we want a new transmission here's a peeve and suggestion maybe spend less on bombarding the airwaves with what they consider a great truck and take some of your marketing budget to ensure you deliver a vehicle to a once pretty loyal customer without experiencing what I consider a catastrophic component failure on a new truck. Put a fraction of your marketing budget into idk quality control perhaps. We shall see hopefully today how this plays out. Still peeving.

I am a "free market" guy, who normally hates any laws or regulations that inhibit business, but quality of aftermarket auto parts is one area where I could easily be convinced my normal convictions are all wrong.

I have purchased so many aftermarket auto parts that are somewhere between "deficient" and just plain "non-functional", that I'm almost afraid to buy anything not OEM anymore. Bad humidity sensor, bad fuel pressure sensor, bad heated mirror, bad windshield washer nozzle(!!!). It seems the market is totally flooded with aftermarket parts that just don't work as advertised.

I remember 30 years ago, back when we still bought auto parts from parts stores that cared about their reputation, you at least knew the aftermarket parts you were buying were of similar quality to OEM. After all, Joe Blow who owned the parts store didn't want to deal with returns on bad product, that cost him money.

Some of the things they do leave me scratching my head. My company Tundra is pretty reliable, but with 180k+ miles, little things are starting to show up.
It had a rear wheel sensor going bad- this caused it to shut off 4WD and the differential lock. I was 1/2 way up an icy hill when it happened and had to call to get somebody to pull me out.
If I had a 2026 pickup it wouldn't be
in my yard while we try to figure out what to do with it, no longer moves...
They would fix it, then I could decide whether I want to keep it or trade.

Not at all. You simply decided to buy one of the least reliable trucks on the market.

At least you don't have the 8 speed-
I've had 3 lf the issues listed here.

That quality level wasn't universal. In highschool in the early 80s I worked at a parts chain named Nationwise . The quality of their "rebuilt" alternators, starters, water pumps, etc, was abysmal. We had a 2 yard dumpster for returns and it would get filled every week. Even us broke employees who got a discount would buy our parts from NAPA because even though they were liberal with warranty exchanges it just wasn't worth the labor to reinstall a starter several times. They did sell oil as a loss leader, which was their only redeeming quality.

But you're right that these days you can't even trust NAPA and certainly not Rock Auto. I pretty much only use OEM parts.

A tundra or even a Tacoma with crew cabs would have been the better choice. They definitely stand behind there products even replacing things on there own dime long out of warranty.in my experiences with them.
