Here in PA the emissions inspection consists of connecting the “machine” to the OBD2 port and it basically just checks that all monitors are set and there are no faults.

Is that true? In the 1990's, there was a tailpipe sniffer involved. Then when they re-did the testing standards ca.2000, they divided vehicles at 1984 model year, with the older ones still getting a parked/idling tailpipe sniffer, and the newer ones going on a dyno with a tailpipe sniffer at highway speed. I'm sure you remember some of the early accidents that occured with those dyno's, one most famously at the Thompson dealership in Doylestown.

When did they ditch the tailpipe sniffers?

Another losartan taker here 100mg, not aware of any side effects.

I took it for 10 months. Had lots of nausea. Seems that if a meds has a side effect. It attacks me.

Overnight low was 38°, forecast highs in the middle 50’s.
Grey sky at the moment, forecast says partly cloudy with slight chance of rain this afternoon.

Yesterday was a series of small chores, started with setting up a dolly for the “Brute” trash can I put in the garage to keep firewood in. It works great, but set me up for the next chore.

When I rolled it over the ABS floor drain that I 3D printed, it cracked it. So I decided to make a new one out of stainless steel. I was able to go into the 3D CAD drawing for the printed one and get the geometry that I needed to plasma cut a stainless one.

The challenge was that I didn’t have a piece of tubing or pipe the right size for the part that makes the trap, so I had to cut a strip and roll it into one. Of course my slip roller was not happy about the thickness of the material, so I resorted to a hammer and anvil. Not perfectly round, but close enough. Got it all done and TIG welded together, it fits nicely.

Next task was to dig up some old aircraft instruments and test them for a friend in Texas that was getting a plane together for his neighbor that has advanced Alzheimer’s. He had several old projects that he is trying to finish for him so his friends wife can sell them rather than be burdened with unfinished projects.

I was able to come up with a working altimeter and turn coordinator for him out of my pile of “stuff”

This was after a quick visit to Drew’s to provide a non GFI outlet for his garage door opener. When I was done, he asked me what I had planned for the rest of the day. I told him that I’m not sure, but something will come up.

Finished the day with a wonderful time at the birthday party, which was over before 9, because we were all old……

The state doesn’t really get any money out of it, I think they charge the independent inspection station like $8 for the sticker, and the station charges the consumer what they want, but they had to buy the equipment, training and maintenance on their own.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a huge waste of my money, but here it doesn’t go to the state, as a matter of fact, I bet they lose money administering the program.

That’s all they do here, but it’s ran by the state. They built huge testing stations to do it, after demolishing the prior huge testing stations that tested at the tailpipe. Huge waste of money and time

We all have different variations in our DNA, and one way that surfaces is in how our liver enzymes metabolize drugs, toxins, food (lipids).

Deep dive:
Losartan is (mainly) processed in the liver by a family enzymes called cytochrome P450, (CYP for short), and specifically the one responsible for turning losartan into the active chemical that helps reduce blood pressure is CYP2C9. The metabolite is 10-40 times more potent than the drug itself. So...if you look at a table of drugs processed by that enzyme, and your body has issues with one, you are likely to have issues with others.

FWIW: DNA testing for drug sensitivity can be done pretty easily and cheaply these days (pharmacogenomic testing), and can be helpful to doctors when trying to choose between several different drugs in the same family, as the drugs often go through different enzymes.

Personally, I don't like to be a guinea pig, if I don't have to be one, and the testing can save time/money/lifespan...

Morning all, 43 going to 61 and cloudy, rain later?
Got most of the Halloween decorations down and in the house.
Spent a few hours on the corn garden, turning the soil. Found another 5x3" root a little further down.
Also got 2 of the T-Posts in for the sides, much easier when ground is a little wet!

Day job followed by darkness, oh well, maybe get something done today besides day job.

Consumers in the 30 states that use the federal exchange, healthcare.gov, can now get a preview of what they’ll pay for 2026 coverage. The site opened for so-called window shopping on Tuesday.

The monthly premium for the benchmark plan on healthcare.gov will soar 30%, on average, according to the KFF analysis, which is based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In states that run their own exchanges, the benchmark plan premium will rise by an average of 17%.

I switched from Aetna Premier to Humana Premier coverage and mine went down $5 a month. Same Doctors.

My jet heater is running under my trailer in the driveway now, as I try to thaw some frost off it to start paint prep for today.

Happy to say the paint job came out great, no clouding overnight due to freezing, thanks in parts to warmer weather, use of catalyst hardner, and getting started earlier in the day. Only had one spot where some surprise dirt shot out of a corner and got a few nibs in the paint.

I skipped on painting the full body, knowing any fresh paint on the upper sides would never get hard enough for use this season, in the current weather. I only painted the undercarriage, since that will soon be hidden below new decking, the new mod's, and anything that was too bad to ignore another year (e.g. under fenders). The rest of the body can be easily be sanded out and re-painted in the spring and left to cure hard in next summer's warm sun.

Good Morning to All Who Celebrate! Currently 59° heading to a high of 64°, sunny and clear until rain forecast on Friday.

Spent the weekend processing firewood, have most of it done (Think it will be just shy of half a cord of wood all said and done.), but don't need to be in a particular hurry. Getting the splitter set up is the time consuming part, and I'm not in a hurry to take it down again. Need to fell the other tree and bring it over to the splitter instead of taking splitter to tree like I did this time. Good thing I have a grapple. If I don't finish by Friday I'll leave the splitter where it is and throw the cover back over it in the tree line, no one will know it's there.

Still need to reach out to Messick's about the snowblower, maybe that will be after next paycheck. Ordered replacement Sawhaul scabbard.

Parents came back from seeing nephew out west, apparently he was a very cute fluffy cow this year for Halloween (Last year he was Charlie Brown) . No trick or treaters here either. Grandma came out on Sunday for a good walk, glad she's finally cleared to go back to full walking duty before it gets cold here.

Girlfriend and her family are currently hunkering down. A powerful typhoon is bearing down on PH as we speak. Fortunately they're not directly in the path, but this one sounds like it could be quite the wallop. I'm praying for them and a bundle of nerves.

Goals for this week: Fell the remaining tree, process it all up, find additional pallets and extend the woodpile. Other than that, just getting through the week will be enough.

About 1 year after taking Losartan I got a new Dr. With his help i am not taking any prescription meds. At 83 years i am hoping to keep it that way.
