Who rides motorcycles?

I was too cheap to buy a changer and suffer because of it. I wrestle with them on a carpet, on the floor. I recently installed a rear knobby right after a new front on my Sportster. Had sore knuckles for a few days. I'm going to look into a changer for next time.
The D606 rear tire was pretty stiff. I can't imagine getting it on without some type of machine to hold the rim. I just saw this gadget and I'm not gonna lie, it looks pretty cool. But it won't work with my changer unless I change to a shorter center bolt???

There is a knack to it. You want the bead opposite of where you are working (180° around the rim) to be in the drop-center of the rim. You can not stretch the tire over the rim, you have to figure out how to make the tire diameter fit over the rim diameter.

If you can get a helper to hold the tire in the drop center at 90° and 270° then the bead will come over the rim easily at 0°.

Mounting a tube type tire one should put the tube in the tire then spread the beads and insert the entire rim inside the tire between the beads. Then you have lots of space for your fingers to thread and secure the valve stem. Finally pry the bead on one side over the rim, flip and repeat. Remember, far side in the rim drop center. Often with good lube one can do this without levers, just body weight.

Don't try to lever the tire and tube over from just one side. That works well with tubeless, not tubed.

I recently bought a pair of motorcycle specific spoons on Amazon for about $10. They are night and day over my bigger square edge HF spoons which are okay for golf cart and mower tires.

This was me around 76-78 on my RD400. Poor photo quality but girlfriend was taking pic with a polaroid in a moving car.

So I see some interesting bikes at work. Some are student owned, some by faculty. I'll start posting some as I see them.

A Better, Vanished Time...... (y)

^ Rush, back touring in '26 ! I didn't know of her, but apparently Anika was already well-regarded in the drumming-world.

Apologies for Drift..... but that grainy Polaroid aligned with what ^ I found-out last night.

V-Star 1100, Virago 750, and an assortment of dirt bikes and 4 wheelers fill my garage. I cruise around on nice days but no road trips for this old guy. The kids, nephews, friends run the off road stuff pretty hard.

So have any of the Chinese tire companies started building decent dual sport tires yet?
Need a 21" front tire.

I read that Tusk is making some decent DS tires. Shinko is another name I came across a lot while comparing 21" front tires. I ended up with a Pirelli MT21 front and Dunlop D606 rear set up for mine. Really nice grip.

Because of to many horror stories I have never tried a Shinko tire, but I have also heard of plenty of happy owners.

The something-9 is a decent street tire. Not great but ok and long wearing. The something-15 stinks stank stunk. Absolutely the worst street tire I have ever used.

On the other hand Shinko has made an excellent reputation in the pure off-road market.

Shinko used to be the OEM for Yokohama motorcycle tires. Then Yokohama exited the market and sold/licensed their tech to Shinko.
