Used to be just get regular diesel from gas station as only use less that 5 gallon per month. Now start to work on the land and used 60 gallon last month. Just want to know where and how to buy red diesel? location: Columbia, South Carolina. Thanks.

Every gas station in our small home town has a pump with red dyed diesel... You might have to ask around your town (or the attendant). Sometimes it's in the back of the store!!! For sure, it's off to the side... Not out front!!!

Here there is not a single station that delivers. There is a place that sells it but they are setup to deliver and won’t fill 5 gallon cans.

Our local COOP has an off-road fuel pump at the stations that are near the farming areas. $.11 a litre cheaper (40 to 50 cents a gallon). The pump is kept locked and you have to go inside to get it unlocked.

If you have to go far to get it, just remember you’re putting wear & tear on your truck, and burning fuel to go get it.

Sounds like you need to have a bulk 200~275 gallon tank so you can have red fuel delivered.
Then starts the battle of keeping that fuel clean and free of moisture. Plus the cost of setting up everything (tank, pump).

If I was the OP, I’d install tank in bed of truck and fuel up from there. I wouldn’t know what to do without mine. It’s an essential tool.

Just north of Columbia the BP in Blythewood (by Langford Road and Hyw 21) has off road diesel.

I also believe that there are a couple places on Hyw 321 that sell it too.

I’m sure there are others places too.

This search shows some other options.

If you have oil heat, do what I do and pump it out of your oil burner storage tank. Around here anyway, home heating oil is red ULS #2, the same as ORD. Check with your supplier first to see if it contains any additives. You might have to add anti gel or anti bacterial agents if you store your equipment outdoors.

I'm currently burning home heating oil that I bought on 3/2020. Its stored outside in a home heating oil tank. I believe I have aboit $300 into the setup. The tank is currently half full and I treated it with power service bio clean aboit 4yrs ago. The goldenrod filter got changed once and stays clean with nothing in the clear bowl. Not much "battle" going on here.
Location is NY.

Don't you hate giving up the truck bed space for it though? Hated the damn service tank in every construction truck I drove.
But now I use 50 ish gallons of diesel a year only.

Around here in Wisconsin there are several outfits that will deliver off road diesel fuel. The same places also deliver gasoline and heating oil. You need to have your own tank to store it in or you could lease a tank. I have been doing business with a local coop for many years, they have regular scheduled routes designed to make sure your getting all the fuel you need when you need it. A simple phone call to one of your local suppliers should get the ball rolling pretty easily. Around here delivered price is usually the same price as buying it at the station. My local coop gives a $10 discount if you pay with cash or check within 10 days of delivery.

No. I have a 9 foot flatbed. 7’ behind it is plenty.

I used to roll the way you do….thinkin outdoor stored old fuel with heat/cold cycles wouldn’t matter.
Then I did a $7,000 injector job.

Good luck.

Lately I see “On-site fuel delivery” trucks. They roll up on you wherever you and your equipment are, and fill you up.
That would be great for me as running down the road to get fuel 3 times a week for 75 gallons at a time is a horrendous waste of my time, and I cannot run a tractor & baler back to my shop every time I need fuel, either.

You ain’t gonna get it delivered for $2.99/gallon though.

I have an outside tank that I set up in 1989. It's still in service and I've never had any issues with water, algae, or dirt. If there is a concern 12/120 volt pumps can have filters installed; Goldenrod has a clear bowl with a drain. Temperature range here is -20F to 100 F.

You must have a special kind of luck. Fuel left outside like that just about anywhere else would trash todays injectors quick

Back when I was considering a 300 gal. outdoor skid tank for ORD, the local Kubota dealer warned me about these potential problems and their possible affect on Kubota injectors. His main concern was water build up caused by condensation in a partially filled tank. He recommended using algae treatment, filters and a water separator.

Instead of the skid tank, I decided to use #2 home heating oil and pump it from my indoor storage tank. No issues in almost 40 years doing it this way.

I have a WWII military generator that starts on gas and then flips to diesel. So it's old. And has never even seen shade.
I was concerned about the diesel that was in it cuz it was a lot so I dipped it with a paste that would turn color if moisture was present.
A bunch of times because it was negative.
So I have ran this thing off of that fuel for hours and it doesn't do anything funny. But, . . . this is old tech.
But I still don't understand that the fuel is still un-contaminated after decades. And in North Dakota, we have quite the temperature range.
