Thanks. We have very thin soil too, then you hit granite. Most areas the soil is 2-3’, but no more. Our well is very shallow - literally 2 tiles so 4’ total, and usually has about 2’ of water in it. It’s right on a spring so replenishes fine except in droughts like we have now. I’ve been away for 2 weeks, but expect to return to no water. Not looking forward to that. Fortunately I have a drill rig coming this week or next to drill a deep well.Just below the topsoil is solid rock. The only way to drill a well would be, well, a well drilling rig that can dig through rock down to a water source.
In some areas, there is no rock just below the topsoil. You can pound a sand point by hand down pretty far to reach a water source.
A sand point is a pointed perforated section of pipe. You put a cap on it that's made to take hammer blows, and you pound it into the ground. Remove the cap, add a section of pipe, replace the driving cap and repeat.
