Old Bush Hog leaking

The gearbox on a 20 year old Bush Hog is leaking, can I fill with grease, what type should I use and should I drain old oil out first?

It is a really viscous, but pourable oil.

Perhaps, but better to just use a grease gun. An electric grease gun works very well. The linked short shows how.

You don't need to drain whatever oil is left in the gearbox, just pump a bunch of grease in it and check it yearly when you do your Spring maintenance on the slip clutch, PTO shaft , etc, it will be good for the life of the gearbox.

I used a Hercules cordless grease gun.
I used corn head grease.

You can buy corn head grease in a bag. It's pretty handy to fill from those.

This is from Tractor Supply and works well. I don't think the regular grease you use in a greasegun works because it gets pushed away from the gears and hardens, leaving the gears with no lube.
