OP is retired. More time spent at home with your wife, the more she thinks of things for you to do, or get up your azz with comments. Women don’t like their men who sit around.
Go back to work, or get a big project to do outside the house. When you come home, you’re too tired for her stupid list of crap and there’s not enough time to do it.

Related: My son got engaged 2 weeks ago to a beautiful, smart, athletic (D-1 women's lacrosse player). I had “the talk” with him about what being married is like-especially the less desirable side. He pretty much ignored me and left for the gym.

The problem is men have two heads and choose the woman using the wrong head.
Women choose a man for security and everything is based on emotion.
When a man gives a woman a plant she hopes it's a flower because he loves her.
When a woman gives a man a plant he hopes it's a tomato because it's food.
A man buys shoes because his old ones fell apart.
A woman buys shoes to match a blouse she has.
When a man answers a question it's either yes or no.
When a woman answers a question it ends up being a 15 minute story.

It took me 53 years to understand all this.

She had somehow gotten the impression that I had already proposed during one of our video chats.

Romance is not her strong suit. She forgets our anniversaries. She also forgets her birthday. It's fantastic.

My dad had a big law firm, and two of the attorneys were female. When they appeared in court together, they had to talk on the phone the night before so each one could find out what the other was wearing.

You need to understand EVERYTHING that led up to her decision. This may even include her ancestral heritage, the weather, and occasionally the alignment of the planets.
We drive a lot of 800 mile trips. I'll ask her "do you want a burger" 5 miles before an exit. She'll get into a discussion of various possible hamburger chains, we'll miss the exit, she goes hungry.
I keep reminding her - If I ask a question that can be answered yes or no, just answer the darn question.
