If I type "Chinese tractor" in the search box of the international version

The results are shown in the picture, and I click into them and see a lot of brands that I have never seen before, but obviously I know where they are made

There are only a few situations that are not sold in China, the first is that the configuration is higher and more expensive, which is unacceptable to ordinary agricultural mechanics, (high-end agricultural mechanics often choose imported brands   )

The second is that there is no way to compete with other brands in China, and the third is that there is no way to pass the official quality inspection in China, and unfortunately these sites often sell the latter two

I don't know if it's easy to buy Chinese agricultural machinery from your side, but if the brand can't be confirmed, then the advice is not to spend too much money to buy, of course, if the price is cheap, it doesn't matter
There is an old saying in China: you get what you pay for:)
As long as the price is reasonable, there is no unreasonable commodity

If you want to buy the best tractor in China

Please enter lovol, or China yto

These two brands are the best tractors in China, but I don't guarantee that they will be cost-effective when buying from your side
:D
I'm not advertising, because I'm not a dealer, but I don't want to cause a misunderstanding that Chinese tractors are of poor quality😁😁
But sir, please remember that you get what you pay for, and any brand has its value

I just inquired about a Jinma 50hp tractor and was told they cannot ship to north america because of EPA.

Sir, I'm very sorry to see this situation, it should be limited by the international situation, I hope you can buy your favorite tractor as soon as possible

If I was looking for used or even new in the 50-60 HP China tractor range, I would not hesitate to buy a new or well cared for Shanghai 504, 554, 654. Not sure if they quit making them , but at one time they were holding over 60% of the China home market in the 50-60 HP class. The pic from the ones you posted appears to be a Shanghai New Holland 654 has the planetary gear outer hub front axle- Shanghai was engaged in a joint venture with New Holland for a while but they were basically the Shanghai models. "SNH" tractors

Mine is over 30 years old and still working hard. See pic of picking up a log below as one of it's early load tests.

I just bought a complete running spare for $3000- locally that has been parked for a decade or so, new batteries and fresh diesel it fired right up and runs smooth. They are built heavy for the 50-60 HP class. As an example the front outer wheel bearings are 4.7" in diameter, and the outer hub ring gear is over 13" in diameter on the 504 and 554 front axles.

Don't, just don't. Buying something made under out of country specifications is NOT the same as buying direct out of country.

Goeduck has very valid points.

The engine accessories can be different or even non existent. On the Shanghai tractors one must specify the engine must be equipped with power steering pump and FEL pump that mount to the front engine timing case. Rear axle can be different with or without PTO also different PTO speeds can be speced.

You have to be specific about configurations. On the Shanghai/Rhino tractors up and until Farm Boys tractors in Tennessee closed it's doors, I could get anything from a complete engine or bare head to the sheet metal, turn signals seals bearings, gears, yada yada.

Importing an older Chinese tractor today is probably a non starter in the USA and many new China tractors are not tier 4 compliant, since the Shanghai's 495A and 4100 series engines were only tier two emissions compliant.

Canada I have no idea, but it could be even more stringent.

Now if I need a part have to search Alibaba and hope I have the right part and that assumes I Can find it listed in the first place.
My point was mainly that of the Chinese tractors sold under the Rhino name, I do believe the Shanghai built units were likely the best built and actually held up mechanically pretty well over decades of use.
Happy owner of a YTO tractor posted in this Chinese tractor forum , but I think that is in the 70+ HP range.

Good Luck with whatever decision you make, but I would also look locally for a new or used name brand tractor as well as confirm the China unit will actually clear customs after checking the tractors engine for compliance.

Warranty???

Sir, I have to say you are truly very professional.
The Shanghai 50 series tractors were developed in China around 1967, and in the 1980s and 1990s, they accounted for 90% of the market share for similar types of tractors in China.
In 1990, the Shanghai 504 tractor participated in the International Tractor Pulling Competition in Australia and won first place.
The earliest Shanghai 50 had a square box shape, available in blue and yellow. My father once owned a yellow Shanghai 500 tractor.Just like in the picture, it has a very rustic design.
The cooperation between New Holland and Shanghai Tractor seems to have lasted from 2003 to 2014, producing the largest tractor model, which is the 1304. However, after Shanghai New Holland Company was dissolved, aside from the models that continued to use the old Shanghai 50 tractor chassis, which still have relatively easy access to spare parts, parts for those other chassis types are extremely difficult to obtain.
This failure has directly led to the Shanghai brand going down in history. The current Shanghai brand tractors are simply produced by a boss who bought the brand, but they have nothing to do with the original Shanghai brand tractors.

I bought a spare Rhino / Shanghai 554 recently and am fixing it up currently.

I will say they are built heavier than probably any new 55 HP tractor except maybe a Mahindra 30 series. The engines are also quiet running and fuel efficient.

After reading horror stories about a couple new TYM's and a John Deere in the 554's size class, I don't feel bad about the clunky non syncro shifting.

Pretty sure they will both be running when I am long gone and my kids get one and a nephew the other.

pics the day I brought the $2600 + 600 for a snow blower s and rake second one home, parked next to the original dad bought new in 1993. Just finished getting the FEL fully functional on the $2600 unit with new seal kits.

No problem lifting a heaping bucket of 3/4" minus.

Next job going to convert the second tractor's FEL to SS quick attach so I can use all of my other attachments across FEL's. Over the last 30 years, I am kind of amazed just how capable the 554's are with the Koyker loaders. I picked up over 3600lb on the forks one time of pellet stove 40lb. pellet bags.
Then I drove it up onto my 5th wheel tilt trailer and transported both.

ps. I wonder if a Video exists of the Australian tractor pull, That would be a real kick to see what tractors it was able to outpull.

Years back I was repairing a 7.3 diesel long box extra cab 4x4 Ford 1 ton that needed the glow plug circuit fixed so it could be started.
We had lots of rain for 3 days and I hook on to pull it through the field to the garage. The Rhino drug it in 2 wheel drive and within about 40 feet there was over a foot of mud pushed up in front of all four tires of the Ford. Kid that delivered it, had left the truck in 4 wheel drive low range in gear with the brake applied when it was dropped off of the rollback. Rhino didn't care- drug the F 350 diesel like it wasn't there.

First of all, please allow me to wish you longevity, sir.

I haven't searched for relevant information about the tractor pulling competition; it's just that every piece of information about the Shanghai 50 tractor mentions it.

I don't know if you can easily buy the parts for the Shanghai 50 tractor if you are repairing and maintaining it locally.

In our area, compared to other models of tractors from New Holland in Shanghai, the Shanghai 50 is relatively easier to purchase.

I wonder if you have heard of the Tianjin Tractor Factory, this factory once had a joint venture with John Deere.

Yes the man I bought the 554 from,- his brother actually bought the 75 HP Tianjin Rhino version of it below and had a lot more problems with it than the Shanghai,

I find it interesting Rhino didn't just sell the 70 HP Shanghai
Screenshot 2025-09-20 130048.png
HP version which only had minor changes from the 50-654 series like a different rockshaft housing mounted on the the rear axle the 4100 instead of 495A -engine which really the only major difference was a 5mm increase in the cylinder liners, and then the planetary end hubs mounted on the front axle.
I do like the idea that the Shanghai design was built heavy enough to also be sold up to a 70 HP version based on the same basic drivetrain and castings.

The tractor brand produced by the factory is called Iron Bull.
