I’m looking to purchase a diesel tractor to mow and pull a trailer around for personal use. Possibly one day add a front mounted snowblower. I do not want a zero turn, don’t need 4wd, no need for a loader, and don’t really need a 3 point hitch. There’s only so many options to pick from.

Kubota BX1880
54” deck and loader valve for $14,150

Another option is
John Deere X750
54” deck for $15769
Or
60” deck for $16,259.

Really wish I could get a 60” deck on the 1880 and I’m not looking to step up to the larger BX
I understand the X750 is a garden tractor and 2wd, that’s truthfully all I’m after. But the only competitive priced option is a BX. The X750 has a mulch control option and the Kubota dealer told me they have an option for mulching.

What’s are your guys thoughts on
-Pricing
-Mow quality
-Mulching
-Reliability
-Ride comfort
-And whatever else comes to mind

With front mount snow blower the BX with 4 wheel drive would be a nice feature since ALL the weight is on the front axle. BX also has 2 range hydrostatic transmission which again is nice for a little extra grunt if needed.

Not sure on how the mid mount decks connect on 1880 but suspect X750 had the drive over quick connect deck

BX probably has treadle pedal for forward reverse while X750 would have individual forward , reverse pedals.

I would recommend sitting on test driving both. One just might fit better than the other.

There are a lot of good discussions here on these machines, but in general a BX would be better suited to all around use and snowblowing, and would be a step up from the 750JD machine with 4WD and available attachments etc.

I would not underestimate the use for a FEL, as they are invaluable to lift, load, and do things.

here's a link to one of those discussions. Kubuto BX1880

I replaced my John deere 455 garden tractor with 60" deck (older series than the X's) with a Kubota B2920 which is the next size up from the BX.

When it comes down to strictly mowing the John deere garden tractor just out performs the Kubota.

Now the Kubota has far more capabilities than that 455 garden tractor but man when it comes to mowing I sure wish i still had that garden tractor to mow with.

Maybe the BX's deck configuration and tractor mow better than the B's but the only compliant I have about Kubota is when we start talking about mowing.

Have you looked at a 1 series JD as well? Size wise not much different than the X750. The 1 series is a better comparison to the BX.

I know little about small tractors. I would base my purchase on how dlose the dealer is and what kind of reputation they have because at some point, you'll be buying parts like filters and a good deal is always better than a poor one. From what I can ascertain, both JD and Kubota make excellent small tractors.

"And whatever else comes to mind" to me would be important depending on how much land you have and budget. Shame to buy then wishing you had something else. Having Deere I would lean towards 1025R, 60" deck & FEL. Tractors, versatility is the key.

No I havnet. I imagine it be more in price than the x750. The X750 is pretty much most I want to spend

The Kubota dealer is about 20min closer. I have good experiences with the Kubota dealer. I never dealt with the John Deere dealer, but they have a good reputation

so what I’m after is mowing primarily. I have another machine with backhoe and loader. I want to upgrade my dedicated mowing machine. I personally like the idea of the x750 more. I don’t need 4wd and I like the 60” deck over the bx1880’s 54”. But it is hard to overlook the extra cost over a BX1880 for less of an overall machine.

I understand an all in 1 machine. My primary concern for this machine is mowing and that’s it. Maybe a snow blower 1 day but that not even a necessity currently

We have a JD X744, diesel, AWS, 62" deck and the wife likes mowing with it. Dad has a JD X749, diesel, AWS, 4x4, 62" deck, snow plow. Neighbor has a X750, gas, 62" deck. There are lots of those Deere garden tractors around here doing lots of work.

How many acres to mow? Hilly or flat? Trees & bushes?

I suspect the X750 will have a tighter turning radius than the BX but the BX1850 I had approx 10 years ago mowed as well or better than my current X540. No experience with newer X7** series or newer BX series. BX might be harder on the lawn when turning.

I just noticed you already have a BX if the tractor on your profile is up to date. I gotcha now. Yeah for a big diesel lawn tractor the JD 700 series you are looking at doesn't have many other comparisons out there.

Yes I have a BX23s. I have an older gas John Deere with 42” deck. Still works fine but I’ve been wanting to upgrade for a while. I’d like to get something durable, Diesel engine, and much bigger mowing width. My theory is buy something good, keep up on maintenance, store it inside, and it should last me forever
