We took the plunge and purchased a 2026 KIA EV9 suv to replace our 2017 Expedition Platinum XL.

There was a $7500 tax credit on it, which goes away on September 30.

We did some calculations and the cost per mile for fuel will be about 4 cents per mile compared to about 14-15 cents per mile with the Expedition. This is the long-range version and they claim we should get about 300+ miles on a full charge. It is NOT the highest trim level, but it has all the necessities. And it claims to be a 7 passenger, but 7 adults would be very uncomfortable.

We installed a charging station at my shop, and it took about 7 hours to go from 25% to 100%. Based on my wife's driving, she should need to charge it about every 8-10 days at a cost of about $10-$12 per charge here at home. There are other DC charging stations available that will charge in about 30 minutes. I don't know how much the cost would be at those stations.

It comes with a 10 year/100,000-mile power train warranty, which includes the batteries. This was one of the biggest selling points.

I find the air conditioner works very well, even here in South Louisiana heat and humidity.

Out of all the offerings out there, why choose KIA? Doesnt everyone else have a 100,00 mile battery warranty?
Hope you enjoy it and it works out for you

Does your KIA want you to charge to 100%?
The Chevy Equinox wants you to limit normal charging to 80%, only charging to 100% just prior to long trips.
We are averaging 2.7-2.8 miles per kwh for the life time and for the current. When we didn't need AC or heat we were about 3.6-3.8 miles per kwh.
So at our cost of electricity be $0.22 / kwh and 2.8 miles/kwh we are about 8 cents per mile assuming 100% efficiency of the charging system.
Knock that down to a more realistic 80% efficiency for charging and we are about 10 cents per mile just for electricity.

Edited to add;
But my pickup is about 21 cents per mile just for fuel.

This was the first time we charged it, and I plugged it in at around 7pm. I was not going to go out to the shop at 1am to unplug it, so I just let it charge until morning.

Our electricity cost is about $0.13/kwh.

What's its tow capacity ? :)
The model I have is 2000 lbs if you add a brake controller. My trim level is the "Light Long Range". Mine is 2-wheel drive. The higher trim levels in 4-wheel drive have a towing capacity of up to 5000 lbs.

Also, towing is not something I plan to do with this vehicle. If you look in the pictures, I already have a 1 ton Ram, a 3/4 ton Ram, and I have a 1/2 ton GMC AT4 not pictured.

My daughter and son in law have a Kia EV9, and they love it. Not many EV's have a 7-passenger capacity. Also, I have purchased most of my vehicles from the same dealership, and they give good service. This is the 3rd new vehicle I get from them in the past year. I am comfortable doing business with them.

On the Chevy you can set what it will charge too on the Chevy app.
Is that the total cost? On our bills the delivery is higher then the power cost.
I just divide the total bill by the kwh used.

I went look in the KIA app and found where I can change the charge limits.

I set the AC limit to 90% and the DC charge limit to 80%.

I think that is the total cost of our electricity. I am on a rural electric co-op and we have some of the lowest rates anywhere.

Love co-ops for utilities.

A full EV has to fit your usage. My nearest family other than my kids and wife, are 13 hours away. Even in a best case scenario I'd have to stop and charge twice each way.

I have to take my truck up there...inheriting a piano. It gets 1/2 the mileage of our Outback. Once mom follows dad, I could probably use a full EV truck around here. I don't go more than an hour or two away and towing is just a 4k utility trailer. The rub is that it wouldn't get enough use to make up the fuel savings.

We're more likely to get another plug-in hybrid when we are done with the Outback. Kids are grown, don't need a beast. Maybe a Rav4. The new one goes 50 miles full EV, but also has over 500 miles of range and gets refueled like any other ICE vehicle on a trip. In my case, that's one stop for 5 minutes each way. It charges over night with standard plug in (we ran 220 when we built the barn, so less for us). That 50 miles means that 90% of our drives would be strictly EV. (10yrs 150k on the battery).

For us, it's all about our utility and keeping cost of ownership down. Not interested in the politics of it at all.

Glad you found something that works for you.

Enjoy. The new Kias and Hyundais are real sweet.

Hey think twice if you really need that piano. I learned they have no resale value at all. Nobody wants one today.

BTDT. After a long time with nobody interested, we finally got a $600 offer from a dealer 400 miles away who planned to put $thousands into renovating it for his high-end Los Angeles store. Only because it was a rare Steinway Upright from 130 years ago. (Mom had bought it at her church's moving sale).

Nice looking ride. Hope you get many miles and smiles along the journey.

$7500 credit. But what was the OTD price?

I was told I can spend $100k cash on a car, and it won't change my financial life if I total it the next day without insurance. But brother, my soul doesn't care. My joy diminishes almost completely at $20k

OTD price was $39,460. This included sales tax of $3051.00, extra warranty and protection of $2735.00, my trade in of $12,000 and a $5000 rebate for financing through KIA. And the $7500 tax credit. And a dealer discount of $2500.00

The sticker price was $59,790.00

So, about $51k...

Yeah. I'm glad someone can find joy in that costly of a depreciating asset. Part of me wishes I could.

But my joy ends at $20k šŸ˜‚

Enjoy it. Drive it. Love it. And sell it to me in 6 years šŸ˜‚

Local piano shop told my wife that most older console pianos are shot with little value. Tuning is about $150-200 in my area, too.

Curiously, what do all those charges on your bill refer to? "Energy" I presume is the actual electricity used, and "service' is the fixed cost of having an accoutnt but what are the others? Typical electric company, lots of obfuscation when it comes to what you're being charged for.
