When I had a repair shop I eventually gave up on even trying people’s 3rd party warranties. Told customers to pay me and deal with warranty company on their own.
100% agree. The aftermarket warranties are about as good as the paper they are written on. Having said that, if you can extend the OEM factory authorized warranty, extend it and that is exactly what I did with my Ford Focus RS turbo, not because I was worried about it breaking, but because of the complexity if the engine and drivetrain and because Fords will allow you to extend their factory warranty. I extended mine 4 additional years. wasn't cheap by a long shot and every Ford dealership had computer access to it. Having said that I could only have repairs done at a Ford Motor dealership by factory trained technicians but it included towing and roadside assistance as well. The complexity of the RS turbo warranted that for my peace of mind.
Used it one time over it's entire life for a failed component but it gave me the peace of mind, knowing it was there, underwritten by the OEM and good at any Fords dealership.
My next vehicle will ba another Ford and it will get the same extended warranty treatmet. Vehcles today are way too complex not to have the peace of mind of an OEM factory extended warranty.
I have no idea if other manufacturers offer a similar package, but Fords does. On the LAST page of the owners manual that most people NEVER bother to read, it calls out the prodecure for extending that warranty it does not list the cost but when you call the phone number listed, it will put you into Fords in Dearborn Michgan and they will tell you the cost per year of extension and the extended warranty takes effect the last day of the factory warranty.
Im my case it was almost 2 grand for 4 extened years and with today's prices and labor costs, I will do it again, without hesitation and that applies to off lease vehicles so long as the OEM warranty is still in force.
I hev no idea if GM or Daimler has the same deal, only Fords.
