I'm looking to buy an F250/Ram 2500 size vehicle for towing my trailers, which carry my tractors and other stuff. In the interest of saving $$ I'm looking at getting a vehicle several years older than new. With labor rates at $200 per hour and up (Alexandria. Va) I'd like to get a bumper to bumper warrantee if I can afford it.
Does anybody have recommendations? /edit (for a car warranty company) I've seen several advertised on Tv and looked at Granger's website.

When I had a repair shop I eventually gave up on even trying people’s 3rd party warranties. Told customers to pay me and deal with warranty company on their own.

F250 with the 6.2V8. That is one very good engine and a very stout transmission with it as well. I have seen one guy get a million miles with nothing but regular maintenance (and he's still putting miles on it). We have an entire fleet of them here who my BIL manages and he says they are one of the best trucks on the road today.

The extended warranty on my 2018 F250 was USELESS!

A dealership must be able & willing to do the work, and the parts must be available, in order for a warranty to be useful.

Complete waste of money.

100% agree. The aftermarket warranties are about as good as the paper they are written on. Having said that, if you can extend the OEM factory authorized warranty, extend it and that is exactly what I did with my Ford Focus RS turbo, not because I was worried about it breaking, but because of the complexity if the engine and drivetrain and because Fords will allow you to extend their factory warranty. I extended mine 4 additional years. wasn't cheap by a long shot and every Ford dealership had computer access to it. Having said that I could only have repairs done at a Ford Motor dealership by factory trained technicians but it included towing and roadside assistance as well. The complexity of the RS turbo warranted that for my peace of mind.

Used it one time over it's entire life for a failed component but it gave me the peace of mind, knowing it was there, underwritten by the OEM and good at any Fords dealership.

My next vehicle will ba another Ford and it will get the same extended warranty treatmet. Vehcles today are way too complex not to have the peace of mind of an OEM factory extended warranty.

I have no idea if other manufacturers offer a similar package, but Fords does. On the LAST page of the owners manual that most people NEVER bother to read, it calls out the prodecure for extending that warranty it does not list the cost but when you call the phone number listed, it will put you into Fords in Dearborn Michgan and they will tell you the cost per year of extension and the extended warranty takes effect the last day of the factory warranty.

Im my case it was almost 2 grand for 4 extened years and with today's prices and labor costs, I will do it again, without hesitation and that applies to off lease vehicles so long as the OEM warranty is still in force.

I hev no idea if GM or Daimler has the same deal, only Fords.

I might add that if you do that, you will pay for the entire duration of the extended warranty on the spot. No payment plans available. You give them your CC number, they email you a copy of it to carry in your vehicle.

If you have no intent of keeping the vehicle a long time (I do). don't bother with it.

Had a component failure a long ways from here and they (closest Fords dealer) had a tow service come out ald falt bedded my Focus to the dealership and had to order the part so they provided me with a no cost loaner (didn not pay the motel cost) while I waited for the part to get to the dealer. 2 days and I was back on the road. One reason why I don't have AAA. Don't need it.

Without more facts your statement is useless.
What warranty?
What problems?
The devil is in the details.
I'm looking at extended warranties at Granger and they show on their web site some prices.
Uses on reddit ford forums recommend Flood Ford, they offer a 10 year 175,000 mile with
$0 Deductible on a new 2024 F250 Diesel for about $12K.

Again, I don't know anything about 3rd party warranties, only Fords extended warranty administrated by Fords. I'm extremely leery about any extended warranty not underwritten by the manufacturer and I've read horro stories in the past about them. My post was about personal experience and nothing more. Furthermore, I extended the warranty on the vehicle I bought off lease and Fords had no issue with that either. Their only requirement was the factory warranty was still in force, which it was.

I was unable to to that with my wife's Suburban because it was out of the 3-36 warranty period as in over mileage and I don't know of GM offers the same deal as Fords does as I never inquired.

Put the cost of the extended warrantee into an interest bearing account, if you need it, the money is there. If not, you're further ahead down the road.

Most people never make a claim, (certainly nowhere near their premium cost). The only one making out is the extended warrantee companies. They are only in it for profit, they cannot stay in business if they pay out more than they take in.

I agree to point and it will all distill down to what is prudent for the individual. In my case I knew up front because I did the research ahead of time, that the German built turbo charged engine and 6 speed closr ratio trans were prone to issues. What I didn't know was if it was from abuse or an inherent issue. No one buys a 320 horse roller skate with a 6 speed close ration gearbox and don't flog on it at least once in a while so I erred on the side of caution and purchased the extended factory warranty. When you have a roller skate that will incenerate the tires at will in the first 3 gears and top triple digits on a freeway on ramp you always prepare for a what if... I can actually spin the tires in the first 4 gears if I try hard. First gear is really not useable as the torque steer is insane.

Having said that and being 76 years old, most times I drive it like the old fart I am and it consistently gets 40 mpg to boot.

When 'Johnny; pulls up next to me at a stoplight and gives me that 'wanna race' look, I may blow his doors off or I may not. Just depends on my attitude that day. Last time that happened, it was a 5 liter mustang and all he saw was the smoke rolling out of the wheelwells and my tail lights. My choice entirely, but again, my choice. The Ford Focus RS Turbo qualifies as a sleeper car in sheep's clothing. Why I bought it it the first place because I still have that 'spark' in me.

Such a mundane looking car (I removed all the 'go fast' graphics right away) and has the car repainted from Race Red to Silver Metallic. Only real give away is the snazzy alloy rims and the wide tires and the double pair of stainless exhaust pipes under the rear valance.

Finally, it insures as a 'station wagon' here in Michigan in the sub compact class, not what it really is.

Sometimes being old and having discretion is a good thing. Sometimes, not so much.
