Ford Maverick Pickup?

We all get way to focused on 7000# towing and such
Everything I've bought in the last 25 years has had that capacity. Yet the next time I tow anything over 3000 lbs will be the first.

I likely will be doing that for the first time next month... and borrow my compamy Tundra for the purpose.

For comparison; for a short term, that ended up being longer, I sold my 2500HD extended, and drove a 2003 Toyota Highland, 2wd. Got a trailer hitch for my 5x10 trailer, and took that thing everywhere, camping, daily commuting, work, hauled material, including quikcrete, lumber, ect. Yes, absolutely I missed the truck at times, but largely, I kept the Toyota between 2011 till 2019 as my main vehicle. I see the Maverick as basically a better in every way option.

If it came down to a regular cab 1500, or a Maverick, I would take the Maverick for everything but heavy towing/payload.

To be 100% honest, I probably hauled more material with that Highlander, both in the back and on the trailer than during the 8 years I had the 2500HD.

Edit: "better in every way" only applies to function/ability. We will see if Mavericks go 250,000 miles on nothing but oil changes, breaks, and wheel bearings...

So, for commuting, with the ability to carry some tools, plants, ect; they are good. If looking at working towards max Payload, or regularly towing more than 3500#, I'd look at Canyon/Ranger/Frontier. Within the limits, the Maverick is a very nice cross between a mid sized car based SUV (think explorer/highlander), and a truck.
I need a little more truck than that, but if it was available in an extended cab with longer bed I'd still consider it.

From a comfortable standpoint, Maverick has plenty roomy in front. Decent leg, arm, head room. Base model seats are a pretty good fabric. Haven't been in back seats, but they look adequate for adults, for a few hours driving.

They don't have great ground clearance, but enough for dirt roads.

I would skip Tremor or whatever, Off Road, high dollar, upgrades. I would personally also not go crazy on luxury upgrades; it's still a cheaper vehicle.

The AWD works well, but a Maverick isn't a mud truck, or trail vehicle. It's great in it's niche, but I think the trouble comes when pushed beyond it's niche.

I'd be more interested in the gas version than buying the electric version because those batteries could be expensive to replace if even available 10 or so years from now.

I asked my Ford dealer if he could get the low price version Ford advertises. He said Ford never seems to give them any allotment of those...only the higher priced ones.
You have to order the lower priced versions.

My friend was looking for the opposite of full size and the boxes to check are 4wd, able to make an airport run to pickup or drop off, garden center supplies, good mpg and reliability… probably will never tow…

Airport = roof height may be important. Parking a full-size pickup in most airport garages is between nightmarish and flat-out impossible. Even economy parking out in the open is a challenge, as the spots are just too small for a full size pickup.

We have one low sedan, but it's not really suitable for parking in the city, it's a high theft rate vehicle. So we end up taking my wife's SUV or my full-size pickup, which are "bad" and "worse" for city parking. I've crashed the roof of more than one pickup truck in city garages that were marked for one hieight, but then had some fixture or sign installed at a lower height.

Maverick is likely a good choice for the friend, for those uses. Don't known if hybrid is what he wants, it is now available with the AWD too, previously it was FWD only for hybrids.

I dont know if it matters, but I was watching a mechanic review of the hybrid, and they mentioned 3 separate cooling systems; engine, battery, and EGR system. If well designed, I guess who cares; but maybe the point was, the hybrid is a bit on the complex side?

Guess it's not EGR, but its an exhaust cooling system

I went with the Ranger as I couldn't work well with a bed that small. Also no need for a real back seat so I got the extended cab with 6' bed. Is a good compromise for me coming from an F250 8' bed but not needing all that capacity anymore. Maverick was a bit too small, bed especially but if it works for him, then should be good. Try it out and see if the room is enough. That one only comes in the full 4-door crew cab setup and the bed is like 4' or so.

Not sure why someone would suggest a full 1/2 ton when the person specifically wants small. Ain't nothing small about modern 1/2 tons...

I have the 4 door Ranger, was denied what I wanted, 2 door and 6' bed. I've never come close to the 7500# tow rating and highly doubt I ever will. I looked at the Maverick recently, and I need more bed than that.

I don’t think they make 2 door Rangers anymore.

Just curious, do they still offer the rear seat delete? When I was looking at Rangers that was one thing I wanted.

I got just about the very last Supercab in the country. The new model in '24 is full 4-door only in the US. Some other markets around the world still have the supercab but not here so far. Not sure on the rear seat delete, but the cushions are easy to remove.

My son has a 2001 Ranger extended cab without the rear seats. Of course it's sitting in the driveway because he once again took my Maverick.

I'd be more worried about Ford electronics working after three years over batteries needing replacement in ten.

My son ordered one last year, took several months to come in, dealers had none in stock. I think his out the door price was around the 25k mark. His is a daily driver to work and errands. He has put about 10k or so miles on it in the 6-8 months he has had it. loves it. He has done some minor truck stuff (helped a friend or two move furniture, picked up landscaping supplies etc) and no complaints. He hasn't borrowed my trailer in a while so it must be working good. Then again he also has a small trailer so that and his new bed seems to meet his needs. He often comments that he is glad he purchased his only ever new ride.

Our freinds have 16k on there hybrid 4wd maverick and I asked how he liked it. Will report back. Rode in it last night and liked it.

Here's what our buddy says about his new maverick...It was perfect for my type of driving. Gas mileage being one of the biggest factors. I get 40mpg average and 50 in the summer. Yet versatile enough for some truck things. I tested a ranger also but it wasn’t right for me at the time. The next one will be more focused on things like towing, and hopefully they are making better mpg trucks by then.
