22 freightliner

My comment, vague as it was, was related to the possibly incorrect thought I had that Detroit had stopped building OTR engines prior to 21'. After some research, it appears that Mercedes is utilizing Detroits in their family of vehicles, rebranded as it may be.

I had no false belief that a 6/71 or 8v92 were the engine being discussed. Although it does do the heart good from time to time to hear the scream of an old 238 or 6v53 passing by.

Imagine the bewildered look on my 18 year old face when I discovered a 6-71 would run backwards!! They marked their territory but would take a lickin.

As Shady Oak mentioned it just shifts automatically so it's still technically a manual transmission. Unfortunately it's all "drive by wire" now. It probably has to do with a sensor between the fuel pump and the clutch actuator? To where the computer has issues where it can't decide to give it gas or release the clutch? They won't sync up maybe? Computer issues.
Not a filter problem as it idles and you have no issues at speed. In a semi you definetey will know when you have a filter problem.
I got out as they were getting popular so can't help you much there.

You have 500hp so unless they de-tuned it it should have very little problem pulling 80,000 lbs.

And by the way, for anyone that's been gone a while from driving, if you take your CDL driving test in an automatic semi it is now basically an endorsement?
Meaning, if you take your driving test in an auto tranny you cannot drive a manual trans semi. You will have to retake the driving test in the manual trans semi in order to drive it "legaly". You can drive either one if you took your driving test in a manual trans semi.

I tried REALLY hard to talk my kid out of driving a semi and the year after he got his license they went to the dual CDL license. This was like 6 or 8 ish years ago, I don't know if it's changed again or not.

My only problem during my brief time with our "autos" was I got stuck in stop and go traffic about a mile from a major turn off and the computer decided to have a conniption fit with the shifting, stop, shifting, stop of the traffic. It just decided to not shift at all and all kinds of lights came on. And of course the traffic decided to clear up and now traffic is driving by me on both sides at freeway speeds.
Being a computer I guessed that turning the truck off for a minute or so and restarting the truck would fix it and I was able to drive it again.

The old Mack 237hp would also. It was funny to see the smoke coming out of the air cleaner, and having 5 gears in reverse!

Good grief... a 22 Fruitliner with an automatic, the world of heavy duty trucks and real truck drivers has certainly went downhill... I not so fondly remember driving one of the fleet spares for the company I retired from that had a DDEC engine it. Least it was a 13 speed. Having said that, it needed it because the torque rise on the engine was terrible as it could not pull any hill without serious downshifting.

All joking aside, whatever dealer you are dealing with, they seem to be somewhat incompetent or at least unwilling to contact DDEC to get advise on the issue. You can however call DDEC, they list their hotline number on their website if you look it up. They can assist you in determining the issue.

No idea where you are at but Freightliner of Toledo is a quality dealer and service center and can help you with your issue.

One of my very close friends and hunting buddy has 60 late model Freightliner Cascadia's and all of them get serviced and worked on there and he has little issues and what he has, they are attended to promptly.

I do know that early model DDEC engines has a big issue with hard carbon clogging the intake runner and causing engine issues as the sensors got fouled from the hard carbon that emanated from the EGR system.

I sure am glad my long nose Western Star has a mechanically injected 3406 Cat in it. I really don't care for a computer driven diesel, especially one with no torque rise and the overly complex emissions system that DDEC has on their engines.
Unfortunately these are what the company bought and I'm not a fan since my last co. Had 18sp peterbilts. However, they are leased through Ryder and they obviously suck!. It supposedly went to a dealer and put on a dyno and they couldn't get it to replicate the issue. But it needs to be hauling weight. Nothing gas a and a match can't fix.

Did you know that some semi-s had auto
tranny's since 1946?

I operate a 2022 cascadia and no one can fix a problem. It will start to shudder and stall out with a load on. It doesn't throw a code but it's getting worse. If stopped at a light and go to drive it will have no power and begin to stall out and shake. This will last a few seconds and then it will be fine. It's an automatic with a Detroit. Around 3k on it. Any idea since the mechanics can't figure it out..
My pickup, 2012 Ram 2500 diesel, did that once. I had it towed to the dealer and they drained the full tank. The fuel was black and it had gel it it. They dumped that fuel, and cleaned all the fuel lines and it was fixed. My tractor also did that. I dumped the tank and gel was blocking the outlet. Maybe there is gel lodged fuel lines and fuel can get by. I had changed the fuel filter thinking that was my problem. I have used anti gel since and it also keeps that corn oil they add to our fuel from growing it.
