63°F and no rain.

Pretty much an energy conservation day as we followed the historic events of the day yesterday.

Today a trip to town, Sophie has eye appointment. Possibly her new glasses will be ready for pickup.

Need to drop off my beer gas bottle for a recharge. Refill both gas and diesel.

Hopefully back in time to start mowing another area.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

-1°F and clear skies this morning, going all the way up to 11° today. Even the heater in the garage couldn't keep it above freezing in there. Warmer days just ahead.

Got to work and found the streets covered with a light dusting of snow.

PJS, I take it you will be convincing the fox to move on or meet its' maker. ;)
It's like you're reading my mind, Bill. (y)

Good morning, gents.

At the last checkup, the doctor recommended I increase fiber in my diet to at least 30 grams/day. Turns out that's a lot of fiber.

After that I made a lentle stew from a recipe in one of Don's favorite cook books, of course using an Instant Pot. Lots of slicing and dicing, but the result was tasty and filling, and had no salt, oil, or sugar in it. All per another recommendation from the checkup, as a cardiac scan found significant plaque buildup in part of my heart. Hence the new cook book, and a move to a healthier diet.
"Generally, all legumes are good sources of fiber, and eating a variety of them is a good way to add different vitamins and minerals to your diet. According to USDA data, a half-cup serving of the cooked legumes listed below will give you the following amount of fiber.

  • Black beans: 7 grams
  • Brown lentils: 13 grams
  • Green and red lentils: 10 grams
  • Kidney beans: 6 grams
  • Split peas: 8 grams"

Our dusting of ice and snow = lots of slip opportunities. In the last photo behind the oak tree under the hay I think the potatoes did not make it, will find out tomorrow. One more night of frigid temps.

Geo temps 3-4 Deg low yet. Not bad for as cold as it got last night. Fortunately,no wind.

What's a watch?

I’m not sure that I’d be happy with a heater of any description that could not reach my set point, just sayin….
I’ve done many a service call for that complaint.

I still know what a watch is, but rarely have to reference one any more.

long day
started out fun with breakfast with Popgadget and friend in Dublin.
then off to Ford dealership to get trans fluid changed.
appointment at 11am for a wait. 45 minutes in no one had worked on my car, and then all the employees met in middle of shop
for ten minutes, then all went off to a half hour meeting for new benefits.
while I waited
and stewed
at 12:40 my car finally went up on lift.
at 2pm I asked for the service mgr...
they must have given this to a newbie.
Service mgr came out, apologized profusely, comped me the entire 280 dollar charge and said it was just bad timing.
plus I knew his guy had a problem he wasn't fessing up to.
finally I made it out of there after 3 1/2 hours.

came home to find my Tire Rack Pirellis piled in driveway, glad they came. 285s sure are wide tires, got them loaded in suv.
now to make appt to get them installed, plus servicing both 4wd differentials, and fixing my sunroof under a We Owe.
Needless to say will leave car there and not wait for it.

what I didn't mention is service mgr, who was excellent, said there was a lengthy procedure tech had to follow, warming up, running, topping off, etc.
but for sure not rocket science. But then something mentioned about having problems getting it all flushed/air out?
I saw the truck go up and down on the lift at least four times.
I knew that wasn't right...will be fun to check codes again and see if trans got unhappy.
this was just preventative maintenance on a first year 1080R 10 speed trans, which the youtube car mechanics all say needs its fluid changed way before 100k. Trans starts to slip, have issues. So I was trying to get ahead of the curve. I asked about the filter. Apparently they never change that, oh it's internal. Well you do have to drop the pan but? I see them change them out online.
I guess if I maintain my equipment too well it won't break and then they have no work, right?...

I know I technically don't have to do the differentials either. But I want to do them before they break, so they won't break, hopefully.
not afterwards....and I'm a third owner, who knows what abuse this truck has had. While they are mucking around down there, am hoping they check
everything over carefully. You want to replace something? you bet, here's the warranty.

Good Afternoon Drew,

Drew, I have a 2017 F-150 that I bought new, it now has 70K plus for miles ! I did read somewhere that they suggest changing the serpentine belts, hoses and transmission fluid all at 100 K ! So I’m thinking of getting all of that done in another 30K ! A lot of those miles are highway back and forth to Vermont, so pretty easy miles IMO ! Still running on the original brakes, wonder how much longer they will last ? I’m truthfully easy on brakes ! 😉

Drew,

My dealer is clueless in the service department. It's so bad that even when they air up the tires they forget to put the caps on the stems when they give it back. But when your trying to stay ahead of stuff, it is always best to have an official record of service from a dealer. I just saw a possible legal action against my latest Chevy for engine seizures. Some things I guess are just destine to fail.

It's cloudy out, been that way for the day and it is still 20 degrees. Coldest night of the year supposed to be tonight. Driveway is a solid sheet of ice. Good thing I ran the equipment down it a day or so ago making tracks, at least one can drive in the tracks. UPS has not attempted to come up to the house, so we have been going down to the mailbox to pickup stuff. It looks that bad, and is that bad, LOL.

One more day of this cold,,,hopefully.
