Starting Tuesday, we are forcasted to have snow here in South Louisiana. I've seen some forcasts up to 15". Now, I know this may not seem much to some of you, but we just don't get that here, ever...

We have no snow removal equipment available anywhere close to the Gulf Coast. And our buildings are not designed to handle 15+ inches on the rooftops.

Our governor has declared a state of emergency for the entire state.

I feel that I will be well prepared, but there could be lots of power loss, and of course, accidents on the roads.

The highest snowfall ever recorded in our state was 24" here in my hometown in the southern part of the state back in 1895. I'm about 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. We do get snow here about once every 10 years or so, but never more than an inch or two.

We had a 3' snow back in 2016 that kept all of the pickup truck plows at home, and tractors and skid loaders ruled. I made a lot of money over a few days that year.

Plowing? Interesting thought...

I would guess you would have to go 500 miles north of me to find the first snow plow. I do have a skid steer and some tractors with loaders and buckets, but I would have no idea how much to charge to push snow. And I doubt anyone would want to pay me to push snow, since that has NEVER been done around here.

The snow will probably be all gone by Thursday as temps are forecast in the mid 40's by then, and in the 70's by Sunday.

One thing for certain and that is, under the incoming administration, you will at least have Federal emergency aid unlike the outgoing administration that left the victims in the Carolina's out to dry....

... and your tractors have at least Power Service white bottle diesel additive in the fuel... up here, I'll be using PS Red Bottle. and a light bulb in your buggy engine bay won't hurt either...

Same here -1 tonight and Monday night, -11 Tuesday night, daytime highs +7, I won't even try to start anything. I will just stay inside where it's
warm or tinker in the shop (also warm). Being retired has its benefits.

I'm always amazed how well my M9 Kubota's start in sub freezing temps and neither of them has block heaters. I just tickle the glo plugs for a bit and crank them and they pop right off. Could be the diesel additive I use or the good starting batteries I maintain, not sure but frigid starting has never been an issue. Had algae issues in the past but never fuel gelling at all.

Supposed to land here after midnight proceeded by high winds and a plummeting thermometer. I see DC tomorrow is gonna be bitter for the inauguration and Trump will be freezing his butt off for sure, in as much as he lives in Florida now. Has south Florida ever seen below freezing temps?

We had sub 32 degrees F in Miami in the early 80s when I lived there.

As one of my wife's co-workers stated, "I could snow if the conditions were right" .

That phrase still gets smiles at our house. ;-)

Sub zero for the next three nights here. High of 5 tomorrow afternoon.

Got 800 gallons of propane and three cords of oak stored in the attached garage. Plenty of food so we can hunker down.

Here are the current approx. totals from the latest model runs.

ECM shows snow getting to your state approx. Tuesday 1am ending 24 hours later.

GFS shows snow already in your state by 1am Tuesday with snow ending about 8pm Tuesday

Nam is showing snow in your state at 3am Tuesday and done snowing at 8pm Tuesday.

HRRR showing snow starting Tuesday 8am ending Tuesday about 8pm

The totals will always be skewed and no one knows what they are until it is over. The models use a 10:1 ratio and that's it. Final outcome will be dependent on temperatures, moisture in the air and much more. When you look at these what you should focus on is the approx. placement of where snow may accumulate and if you took an average depth from all 3 models. I'm not a professional just forecast for my own business. I know nothing of your area so can only provide these models as well as if your interested the link where I got my training from.

It'll be strange for you guy, but just make sure you are ready with fuel and food along with maybe some type of insulation to stuff around any vulnerable plumbing. A propane torch is valuable for many things when it's below freezing, even if it's just to melt the ice out of a padlock.
Don't worry about leaving home and enjoy this rare snow event with the kids.
A little pan of some sort and a piece of rope is a blast for the kids when you tie it to your 4wheeler !

-30F and down to (-45 Windchill) for the 4th day here. Vehicles have been starting, but lumpy and sluggish trying to get moving.

But all in all, it's been a Awesome Winter, 4 Snowfall Events maybe 8"s total, but the first 4"s melted in the X Mas Thaw.

I'd suspect it will melt pretty soon after. Right? We had 9" on the ground for 2+ weeks here... But we are much colder overall. I'd guess in a few days it will melt? Isnt it supposed to warm right up after the snowfall?

When we got our last snow, 9", that was forecast to be 13".... We just stayed put for a couple days, and even though it didn't melt, (10F) the roads were clear.

It was nice to be able to play with the new snowblower. But once we got 2 days in the 30s... It basically all melted away.

That is true. My generator runs on natural gas and can power my entire house and shop. But, I still hope I don't need it.
