Growing up on the farm we had a 250 gallon diesel tank and pump that belonged to the company that filled our tank. The red dye was put in our tank when the truck delivered our fuel. We also had red gas in a 55 gallon barrel that was filled when diesel was delivered. Later on they did away with the red gas and had to use the pump gas from local station

When I still drove the transports,the dye was added at the rack-injected just like the gasoline brand-specific additive.

A bit OT, but anyone remember when Sunoco gas was dyed blue? I think it was just a marketing gimmick, but I thought it was kinda cool. Dunno when they did away with it.

So long as the dye don't adversely impact the useability of any product, it's all good and yes I remember the blue dyed Sunoco gasoline. I use to burn Sunoco 260 premium way back when premium gas was really premium and not the corn squeezed junk we have today. Just like you can dye hydraulic fluid or even motor oil. The hydraulic fluid I use, Chevron All Weather THC synthetic is dyed orange of all colors.
Makes it easier to see on a dipstick or in a sight glass versus the clear fluid that is difficult to see.
