Is there a good video on how to change out the steering cylinder on my 425? I looked on you tube and couldn't find much. Or maybe some one can explain it to me simply?

How much of it are you changing out? Looks pretty straight forward to remove it but must be something not apparent to you. What might it be?
A photo and some arrows will help us help you out.

Well my mower deck is still on is that in the way? Do I need to remove the front wheels? Also do I need a certain numbered cyl for this 425?

How do I find out if my 425 is an A or C etc. for fitment of the cylinder?

It can be done with the deck installed. Does your tractor have a triangular steering plate in the center and 2 shorter tie rods? If so it’s the earlier version. The later revision has a single long tie rod.

No it is not all wheel steer and I do not have a manual the serial # is missing there is some numbers on the radiator would that be the number I'm looking for? I don't believe it has a triangler plate it must be the newer model.
Here are the numbers I found on the radiator. TCD P/N 04-0034 JD P/N AM 121497 Mfg date 1-7-97

And you couldn't match up the different cylinders shown in the JD parts link to tell which one needed?

I think it looks like the 12C AM147176 and if it is this is the right number to order?

Any idea what failed? Or it just quit working? Are you certain it just needs a cylinder?

It leaks must be worn out seals. Still works just leaks really bad. Man, those are expensive, and I've seen where you can't just replace the seals. Where to get one fairly cheap?

The Amazon ones actually work OK. The cylinder can be resealed as well, but it takes some pretty involved cutting and welding.

Well my cutting and welding abilities are not very good anymore I just want a good cyl to replace the old leaky one I'm tired of putting cardboard down on my garage floor

How did replacing the cylinder work out for you?

I replace a leaky steering cylinder on my JD430 late last fall with aftermarket one and it works well & the fit was good, but we will see in couple of years how well it survives real use?
