Hello

My new loader has the global / euro hitch system. If I understand correctly I believe it’s supposed to latch the bottom pins automatically when you tilt back the loader during the attachment process. Mine isn’t latching, I have to get out of the tractor and do it by hand. Not a big deal but I’m wondering what am I doing wrong? Maybe something needs to be adjusted?

it should latch automatically (at least the MF's do) unless you doing something wrong or something broken/tweaked.

What model of loader?

Mine the bucket has to be tilted all the way back, and held all the way back for a couple of seconds, to trigger the mechanism.

Do your pins move easily by hand? Only time I've had issues is if mud/manure/ice is in the pins and the springs can't overcome the extra friction. Clean pins and greased no issues.

540m loader and I’m trying to attach forks automatically. The pins move easily by hand.

Here’s my global on 540m loader . Is yours missing the curved piece of steel attached with 3 bolts? It pushes up on the rod to dislodge the little locking rod on outside of frame , happens about last 3” of curl back.

When you unlatch the unit are you compressing a spring and engaging a latch that is tripped when the new attachment swings all the way into position.

Paging @Hay Dude. I think he has Global on all or most of his tractors, too.

That’s what I am trying to do. It doesn’t trip when the new attachment swings into position. I’ll have to look to see if I’m missing the small trip plate pictured above.

The PUMA and NH when we unlatch them we pull the lever and it engages in a hook, we dump that attachment off pull up to the other catch the top hooks with the carriage still curled down quite a ways, then lift and curl back at that point the attachment bumps the latch on and the springs push the pins into place.

That sounds very similar to the style of auto lock on my 540R loader . Ear on attachment pushes the lever disengaging the J hook. 540M uses a different trip style, both work excellent

That's how mine work too, I have ALO loaders...

my loader has the curved steel plate that seven gables mention and it automatically latches when I hook the bucket up but not the forks. The forks are AP16G by frontier and weigh 550lbs. I am wondering if the plate can be adjusted somehow?

The global trip system used with the 540m loader functions independently of whatever attachment your using, the curved trip plate is bolted directly to the loader arm . It should trip and lock without any attachment mounted when you fully curl the tilt back.
It trips with your bucket so it tells me the trip system is working.
As to weather theirs any adjustment to the trip plate I’ve never loosened the 3 bolts to see but I kinda doubt there is.
Next time you hook the forks up your just going have to look very closely and try to see what’s stopping the system from snapping closed. Take some pictures and post would help us all .

Just thought of one possibility. Is there any ice , mud , manure stuck to the lower backside of your forks? That could stop them from fully seating against the global carrier and the holes for the lock rod to not fully line up.

No mud or debris. I’ll get some pics and post them. It latched automatically with the forks one time yesterday but would not the other 3 times when I was investigating. I should have grabbed pics.

Also good to know it should latch without any attachments.

When you don't have an implement attached, does it lock into place when you rock back the FEL? Just empty FEL, it should lock when you rock it back. Check to ensure you have the spring in place as well. But the forks/bucket, etc don't cause it to lock, it is the FEL itself, which has all the mechanism to autolock.

It does not automatically lock with just the loader. Looking at it in the fully curled position without any attachments there is about 1/8” gap between the bump plate and spring pin. When I add the bucket that gap disappears but it’s not enough to force it to bump, I think the weight and vibration of the bucket is enough to release it but not so when using the forks and definitely not when empty.

i attached some pictures even if they’re hard to see. I noticed the loader mounting plate that’s welded on is sheared and missing the third bolt hole. I’m not certain that’s contributing to the issue though? The hole pattern on the bolted on plate does not appear to have any adjustment ability. Do I have the wrong bolted on plate or something? I am stumped.

Comparing pictures it sure looks like either my bolt on plate is too small or the welded on mounting plate is welded too low on the loader?
