Issue with cut out..my generator single pole with adjustable brush
I need help with installing VR. Asking what VR to buy and how to connect wires

Is the cutout bad?

Many of my cars have cutouts… some I removed the guts and replaced with a diode…

I think you would need to replace your generator if you upgrade to a voltage regulator:

The 3-brush, single wire Ford generators can/must be adjusted to a neutral "motoring" state for best performance. There's also a voltage regulator available for the Model T that should work for the single wire tractor generator too. I used to rebuild Model T generators and starters back in my shop days. I still have my shop-built test stand.
