You Know You Are Old When

I thought about cleaning remote campsites in the North Maine Woods when I retired. It would keep me in the woods and maybe do some fishing at night.

Then I remembered what slobs people can be, especially when they aren't the one's cleaning the outhouse. I won't call them pigs because I won't insult the Porcine species.
Camp grounds and/or state parks are close contestants for most disgusting bathrooms, anywhere.

I’m glad to say that the bathrooms in most of the places I’ve worked have been kept clean, no puddles of piss on the floor. But I was always amazed at the large puddles of water people would leave on the counters around the sinks… until I had kids.

Clean up your ****, folks. No one wants to clean up after you!

Amen!!! Not just restrooms, either. I walked into the local general store one spring day after the snow had melted and started picking up cigarette butts off the floor where they had been tracked in- then suddenly realized "WTF am I doing this for?"

Years ago the Maine Forest Service maintained campsites throughout Maine, which were available to use for free. I spent 10 days working out of one, then left Monday AM, leaving a neat campsite and a pile of firewood. I returned Friday night to find trash all over the place and a pile of s- er, excrement in the fire pit.
On another occasion we were camped out next to a lake, where a young couple was also staying with their kids. When they pulled out I walked over to see about moving as it was a nicer site right next to the water. There were dirty diapers everywhere including in the fire pit and in the lake.

Growing up mom always reminded us to pickup our clothes and hang them up.

I learned at the hospital many Docs must of had mom's not saying this...

The farm got indoor toilet in the 1930’s but still had the outhouse until the mid 70’s because you were not going into the house with stable clothes per grandma!
We still have our outhouses that are in use during emergencies. One two-seater and one one-seater. Given that they seldom get used, nature probably has made them more sanitary than a public loo.

I absolutely hate going into public restrooms, every time I do I wish I had on rubber boots. The old saying of "stand close it is shorter than you think" very much applies because the floors are usually standing in fresh pi$$.
Worked pumping gas at a local Exxon in the late 70's early 80's (back then gas stations even had 2 inside lifts to work on cars!).

"Cleaning the restroom" was the worst part of the job. I remember coming into the cash register area inside and telling Butch (the owner) that someone took a dump on the floor in the mens restroom thinking somehow I wasn't going to be the one responsible for cleaning it up.

I worked at a service station in 1970. Never a dull moment for an 18 y.o. because owner had tow truck, fuel oil deliveries, working on cars, trucks, tires, etc. $1.25/hr. Then he said we had to clean bathrooms (). Owner was gone a lot & I worked with two friends ("Monkey" & "Rat" ) I said first day I had an idea. Each bathroom had a floor drain...so simply remove the tp & towel dispenser & stand at door with the pressure washer. In 5 minutes...DONE.
Owner never caught on but said they looked brand new.
Of course he had the door key chained to a car wheel for customers.
We played hide & seek one day & I hid in ice chest. A car pulls up, I hear the quarter drop so I handed the lady a bag of ice (she screamed). I could write a book...
