I knew a guy who towed fully loaded hay wagons with a Ford 8N. Going down hills he would just turn the ignition off and on.

Thats an Eicher. Eicher started in 1930 and was the first Western manufacturer to start a branch in India in 1959. The Germans went bankrupt and disappeared in the 90s after selling their Indian branch first. So the brand name still exists in India.

Is that a single cylinder engine? I see the exhaust is puff ..... puff .... puff.

Auto translate has issues with Finnish but you'll get it. As you can see in the spec list, Steyr had a shuttle transmission as standard in 1956.

Nowadays, Steyr is the premium brand of CNH, both Case and Steyr models are made in the former Steyr plant in St Valentin, Austria. My mates Puma also has a badge in the cab in large fonts "made in Austria" to set them apart from the blue ones that are assembled in the former Ford plant in Basildon, UK. The blue ones have the peak boosted horsepower on the hood, where the red ones have the nominal hp (without boost) on the hood, to give the red ones a slightly more solid brand image. The only difference is the cab interior, control levers and buttons, and control software.
Fiat found out that Case owners were unhappy with New Hollands painted red, so they had to give it enough of a brand identity, and build quality.

Case bought Steyr in 1996 because of their CVT transmission, and because they needed replacement for their European 1455 model, which they kept in production to close the gap between 125hp Maxxum 5250 and 155hp Magnum 7210, and more specific the chassis size of the 1455 which was popular in Europe.
The MX150 and MX170 came in 97 or 98, but that powershift was already a bit crude and limited (4 range 4 powershifts, with little overlap and rough shifting and loud howling gears) by then, so the rebadged Steyr powershift (6 ranges, 4 powershifts) and CVT models formed the premium models for Case in Europe.

Here's a thread I posted here in 2004, that included several photos of Eichers in India. There are also replies from others discussing Eicher history.

And one of the several Eicher photos in that thread. Eicher GoodEarth!

I remember Bernhard from other sites back in the day. Havent heard of him in a long time. I see he hasnt been on TBN since 2015, and he was a retiree 25 years ago... 🤔😏

I pulled 7 to 8 ton loads of bales with a Zetor 2011 too. You just have to ease off the throttle way ahead, and drive up a junction at walking pace so you can stop within 3 yards. 25hp was plenty to get to 25kmh, but 3000 pounds not quite enough to stop on a dime.

A buddy sent me this, saw locally the other day, too bad he doesn’t have a truck to haul it with! lol

Trucks stopped being trucks when the boxes got short and the cabs started sitting 6.
They're just heavy duty SUVs with open storage areas out back.
They can go off road.
They can haul a large family around.
They can make a dump run with 5-6 large cans.
They can't haul anything of significance from Home Despot or the appliance store.

In the "75% of truck owners..." thread that change hasn't quite sunk in yet.

There I feel like a 1-man army against the 1/2-ton crowd.

That's because you are wrong. People are buying them for what they need. You are free to buy something with an 8 foot bed if that's what you need... As I pointed out in that other thread.

My little half ton has the 6 1/2 ft bed so with the tailgate down I've got 8 ft of flat space. I will admit that it is a bit unusual but it is much more maneuverable then my old Ford F350 crewcab with the 8 ft bed was.

No, it's some evil conspiracy, that the big 3 only make what no one wants. 😛 They build what sells, end of story.

And bed length doesn't have any primary effect on towing capacity, off-road capability, or snow-covered road capability, which are the main reasons I own a truck. I couldn't care less if the thing has a 6 ft or 8 ft bed, when I'm hauling 15 ft logs. That's why I own a trailer.

My argument also, when people say that I can't haul an 8 foot 2x4 with the tailgate closed.
"What are you going to build out of 8 foot 2x4s?
I hauled (2) 20 foot long 3x10 inch planks back from the mill on my Ranger with a 6 foot bed. I had good racks and tied them down well. The hardest part was loading them; they were green tamarack, and heavy!!! I think I actually brought them home one at a time.
