Vehicle Oil changes

   / Vehicle Oil changes #11
Long ago someone in my family got their car's oil changed at a Jiffy Lube and they left the gasket on the engine.
I used one a few years ago before an 11hr each way drive. Got home a few days later and smelled oil burning. They didn't change the oil filter, but *had* loosened it apparently.. Checked oil and was 6qts low on a 9qt system. 🤦‍♂️

How the engine wasn't destroyed, I'll never figure out.

My preferred shop for the work car, I pulled out after a PM-B service (oil, fluids, rotate tires, check brakes); I pulled out of the parking lot, and felt a ridiculous wobble immediately. Not shack, like a wobble before I got to 10 mph. Pull right back in at their 2nd entrance, and get the main shop guy. One of the kids started the lug nuts, but only tightened them on 3 wheels. I mean started, not finger tight, just started...

Most dealerships don't compensate their mechanics fairly so the quality can be spotty. Unless I can actually watch the person change the oil and filter I probably wouldn't do it.
Some oil change places have remote cameras where you can watch the work happening.

Convince your wife to buy and EV and you won't have to worry about oil changes. :D
So, me and the kids were at Harbor Freight the other day, and there was a cyber truck in parking lot. They were mostly making fun of it; and I realized, I really Don't Know what all goes into Preventative Maintance on an EV, were/how you do it, and all that. I'm not going to be buying an EV, but 18 y/o son was making fun of EVs in general; and I mentioned, I could see, say a hospital, offering free charging while on shift as a benefit, or something similar; and that could be an interesting tactic to get hard to find workers, in suburban/urban, heck, even rural areas. I'm sure a large business can get some incentives to offset the cost of a solar charging station car port kinda set up.

Get you wife to test drive a Tesla (set up a drive at the website) and most likely she will be hooked.
EV's have a lot less moving parts and logically have less maintenance. I have to remind my daughter who drives our GM Bolt to high school to fill the windshield wiper reservoir. That's it.

At <20 mpg on that Charger you will spending less on fuel (electric cost).

Actually that is cheap for an oil change.

Every time mine takes hers in, it costs $600.

She gets around 24-26 mpg for a 5.7L hemi charger. My 2019 Ram 5.7L gets right around 19 mpg.

Everyone I know with a Tesla (only a couple people, mostly engineers) really do like them, but the guys I know, like them in general, not specifically cause of the EV part.

Watched something about the BYD plug in hybrid pick up, available in Mex, and although I didn't see the price; it actually looked like a practicle medium sized truck. 60 miles battery range; and a onboard gas engine generator, for total range of over 400 miles. For Many people, 60 miles range takes them to and from work; and depending on each person's situation, could make good money sense.

BYD Shark; not available in USoA, but available in USoM, as well as UAE, and 80 countries.

My local Ford dealer does my F150 w/ tire rotate, inspections, etc. for $95 using 9qts of synth blend. They don't vacuum though..
With 9 quarts in the pan, you should only have to change about every 10k miles

I'm probably around $30 for oil, and $12 for a Wix.
I got you beat. I’m usually around $19-$24 for 5 quarts synthetic or semi, and another $4-$6 for a filter depending if I get a good online deal( always scouting) , which lands me around $30 total.
The truck needs a sixth quart, that comes from leftover from another 5 qt container
