Dropped a small pine tree on my slash pile...thought while I was there, I would "tighten up" the pile and push it together.

Oh man, was that a bad call...

Looked up and the grapple was swarmed with wasps...and it didn't take them long to find the operator!

It took 2 eternities too long to stop and shift into high range, then it was a race back to the house!

Apple Cider Vinegar seems to help sooth wasp stings...
ouch, those things are fast and get angry quite easily.

will try the ACV next time. Hate getting stung.

I used to have honey bee hives along a lane out back, and always thought it was interesting that when I would take the tractor or lawn mower by, the bees would never become hostile. I always thought maybe the engine vibrations kept them disoriented. Until I drove by once, and forgot how much the trailer stuck out to the side, and proceeded to knock over a bunch of hives. Yah that getting into high gear took forever, and was nowhere near fast enough.

Years ago a friend had borrowed a large bulldozer from a local farmer. As he was pushing trees in his yard, he hit a nest in an old dead tree.

He put the dozer in neutral, and jumped off, but as he was jumping off, he hit the lever to put it in reverse.

You can't really climb back on to a moving bulldozer, so they watched it slowly back into the bayou. By the time the engine quit, it was about 90% submerged.

He had to call the farmer who came with some other equipment and pulled it out of the bayou.

I know my time is coming. It’s usually in September when I get ambushed.
2 years ago, I weed wacked a yellow jacket nest and got stung about 15-20 times.
Last year, while weed wacking a pond, I got lit up like 8 times.

Both in September.

Hornets in September are like a lonely man in a bar at last call... all riled up and ready to poke the first thing that walks by.

I tried to convey similar advice about using diesel fuel to start fires instead of gasoline to my neighbor.

Every year for 10 years while we lived across the street from him. I even offered him my own diesel on a couple occasions

Every fall going into winter, wife and I would be watching TV and then all of a sudden we would hear a "whooommmp!!" followed by the pictures on our walls shaking.

I would just look at my wife and say "Merle must be burning leaves again"

Then I would go peak out across the road to see if he was thrashing around on the ground or not
When we do prescribed burning, the fuel we use in our drip torches is 50-50 gas/diesel. The gas makes a lively flame and the diesel tones down the mixture so it’s not explosive. The diesel fuel also burns longer than pure gas so when the fire is dropped on the ground, it burns long enough to ignite the duff.

Wow. I'd carry an epipen and my doctor years ago had me carry a few 5mg Valium pills. He said it prevents body from overreacting to stings. 15-20 stings can be deadly.
My farmer neighbor friend was using his Bobcat skid steer peeling back an area of ground and uncovered a nest. They were stinging the tires but he didn't get stung he thought because he was covered with diesel fuel.

September is bad for yellow jackets in the forest areas where I live. One time while working in the woods, a co worker stood on a downed log. It split open and a black mass of yellow jackets swarmed out of it. We took off running and slapping off the yellow jackets. After running about 1/4 mile they were still following and stinging. Miraculously it started raining and they stopped following. I had 7 stings, but he had 21 and had to seek medical attention. I hate those damn things. At this time of year, they will even show up when you’re eating lunch in the field and are more persistent than flys around your food.
