Trailer Weight?

I have a Tye-Bro Metals equipment trailer with a label which says:

GVWR 12,000 lbs
GAWR 6,000 lbs

I understand that the above lists "Gross Vehicle Weight Rating" - Meaning how much it can handle, including its own weight. I also understand that "Gross Axle Weight Rating" refers to what each axle can handle (well, duh, 2 axles and a GVWR of 12,000 should equal 6,000/axle).

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can determine the weight of the trailer, absent taking it to some scales somewhere?

I'm researching purchasing a mini-X and the one I'm looking at has a weight of 9,158 lbs. I want to make sure this trailer will handle that much weight. Otherwise I'm going to have to go down in size or get another trailer.

Usually it will tell you the payload rating which is basically the GVWR minus the trailer weight. At least the trailers I have list that. Otherwise find a CAT scale near you and weigh it.

That is the issue, I can't find anything on payload rating on it. I inherited the trailer and don't think the company is in business anymore. Will likely resort to finding a place to weigh the whole rig then weigh just my truck and do simple math.

If you dont have a weigh station near you find your local garbage dump, I have to weigh my truck/ trailer anytime I go there. Will give you a good idea if you know what your trucks curb weight is.

Grain elevators and bulk fertilizer places also have scales. Or find you a DOT officer with portable scales....May not want to do that. He may want to inspect the trailer but...

Any type of quarries near you? They'd have scales also.

Concrete batch plants, sand and gravel suppliers have certified scales also

12K trailer (steel frame) should be between 2650 and 2850 empty depending on length and floor material (wood vs metal). so you are probably at your limit or close to it with the mini-ex. add chains/binders/toolbox/etc. might toss you overweight. Best bet is run it through a scale ... if you have a truckstop near you, they should have scales
