That T REX is a beast.
I really wanted a Track Hawk but even used was a bit more than I could budget.
I had one for a while, but it was a bit of a disappointment.

Shouldn't have been since it was obvious that with the extra weight it'd be nothing like the Challenger.

Okay, the TRX is slower yet, and has a severely limited top speed, but that I knew going in. And it can do things the Trackhawk couldn't.

Also ordered a Durango, but when that one finally showed up I'd bought a GT AWD and liked it a lot more. Sold the Durango with the same 18 miles it had on it when I picked it up.

I'm the same way. Which is why I live where I do. Many of the trips I take into the Nevada outback I can travel 200 miles and not see another person or even another vehicle. God's country.

I got to do a very small taste of that and I would just stop, my eyes would feast on a continuous mountain chain of God’s Majesty. Just like in your photo.

The one in my above post is county-maintained, and the counties do a great job. Unfortunately most of the roads around me are BLM (Federal government) and they do almost no road maintenance. If a road becomes impassable due to washouts or whatever then it is considered closed and the area becomes eligible for "wilderness" designation wherein no vehicles are allowed at all. This is a pic of a BLM road, taken about 30 miles south of the road in the above post:

Only a designated employee of the Federal Government is allowed to work on a BLM road. A private individual would be subject to arrest. That policy is a big change that came about some 30 years ago. Up till then, if a rancher or miner had an interest in an area (like a mining claim) he was allowed to maintain the road. No more.
I see quite few county roads here that look like that for months after storm. Granted mostly country roads through federal land.

Around here we call our mountains "The Altars of God". I find it most appropriate.

I would say I’m surprised but few things surprise me anymore.

If road isn’t maintained how does a person reach their mining claim or private land?

Monster truck, pack mules, winter snow cat?

If they can fix the road up just using manpower (using pick and shovel) then the Feds don't seem to get that upset. If you need to bring in equipment then there's a permit process to go through...but it costs money and can take months or even years.

If you were to go prospecting on public land and find a ledge bearing gold, for instance, it will take a minimum of 7-10 years of permitting processes and millions of dollars (for those permits) before you are allowed to move any dirt!

I know I have said this before, but I am an IDEAL candidate for an electric medium duty truck. The torque would be phenomenal and all my trips are less than 40 miles.

I have an ICE BMW X5 and a Jeep Rubicon for personal transportation.

If they build a Ram 5500 with electric that’ll pull more than my current Cummins will, without taxpayer subsidies, I’ll buy it. But I don’t think it’ll happen.
It is coming.

Tesla makes a semi truck, and several other brands are breaking into the market. Probably not what you're interested in, but the EVs are far more than just little golf carts.

The Chevy Silverado Work Truck was supposed to come with a 20,000 lb towing variety, but it hasn't made it to the market yet. I'm hoping perhaps spring of 2025.

Unfortunately there has been very little recent information about the heavy tow package for the Chevy Silverado EV.

RAM is working on an EV pickup, hopefully for this fall, but probably only the 1500 model for now, only being introduced with the smaller battery pack.

There are some notes about an impressive startup Atlis XT Electric Pickup Truck with 20,000 to 30,000 towing. Unfortunately that appears to be vaporware, and may not make it to market.

Smith Newton has been making small box trucks for about a decade now.

Some of the older Smith Newtons are now making it onto the secondary market.

I think a few other brands are also working on the small truck market.

I’m starting to see the Tesla truck on the roads.

3 days 3 Tesla trucks… doubt the same one but it could be 35 miles away?

Saturday attended a funeral and as was leaving looking for an opening to pull out 5 Tesla cars drive by.

On the way home car carriers loaded with Tesla cars heading South.

Someone is buying them.

Im not sure where you would load the ready mix sacks of concrete and lumber from a Home Depot run?

It reminds me of some of the SciFi films of the past driving along next to it.

Saturday had great weather and Los Altos/Saratoga is an upper scale area with other interesting cars on the road… 427 side pipe Cobra, 2 Ferraris, Twin Turbo Mercedes, etc…

What the wealthy drive is of little consequence to the market.

Seeing a larger proportion of EVs in those areas does not mean much. It also feeds the "toys for the rich" narrative. These are not the folks that keep a vehicle for more than 5 years like most of us do. When the new wears off, they buy the next new toy to feed their egos.

I keep hearing about the high insurance rates for EV’s and that some insurers won’t write a policy for EV’s. Is this true and what is the comparison for insurance costs for ICE and an EV.

Another reason not to live in the city.

I did live in Bangor Maine for 5 months when I was starting out... I was bored to tears and spent a lot of time walking. One night I was walking down the side of the road when a car went by and something went whizzing past my head. I went back the next day and there was a quart beer bottle lying in the ditch. On another occasion a car stopped and a guy got out wanting to fight. I'm not a fighter but am too stupid to back down. Luckily his friends dragged him back into the car.
I'm more at home in the woods with nobody within 5 miles... which is where I'll be tomorrow.
Based on the demographics you would think Bangor, Maine would be a safe city.

Good news is that Maine has liberal carry laws.
"Any Maine resident over 21 (who is not otherwise prohibited from owning or being in possession of a firearm), is authorized to carry a concealed handgun without a permit. "

IMHO get gov help purchasing an ev everyone
purchasing a vehicle should be getting the same!!!
But what I am hearing in congress ev's are not the
answer!
I suppose trad will say these listed below are false??
HERE ARE SOME FACTS: disadvantages include finding charging stations, charging times, higher initial costs, limited driving range, and battery packs can be expensive to replace. Battery issues, climate control, and in-car electronics are among the biggest problems in electric vehicles.

EV owners suffer from 79 percent more reliability issues than gasoline or diesel vehicles. Plug-in hybrids are even worse, with 146 percent more reliability issues, although straight hybrids are more reliable than conventional vehicles. Recurrent, a firm that studies battery health, surveyed 15,000 EV drivers in March and found that 1.5% needed battery replacements, which range between $5,000 and $20,000. TO REPLACE THE BATTERY IN MY CAR
COSTS LESS THAN $200. Gas cars are cheaper compared to fuel than electric cars. Electricity is usually more expensive than gasoline, which means that it will cost you more per mile, so gas-powered cars offer better value for money in the long run.

willy

Can't speak for other EV brands but for Tesla most of your "facts" are bogus. Quit buying into fake news.

The only "facts" that are true is "battery packs are expensive to replace". That would also be true for a new diesel engine on my truck if mine implodes because of bad fuel so the point is moot.

Any posts from non EV owners should be qualified with "not an EV owner so my opinion is based on emotion".

I also bolded a lot of words to make my case. ;)

Insurance rates can vary from city to city, state to state, age, etc. I can only speak for myself that my insurance rates are no higher than any other new car I've purchased.

If I lived a city I would ride a bicycle or the bus. I don't. Having a vehicle tied up for 7 hours must be convenient. Where I live that wouldn't work, if only because I like being prepared for an emergency.

agreed. 👍
If you only have one vehicle and its an EV just keep it charged every day and you probably will only have it "tied up" for maybe two hours. Since my Tesla is "tied up" at night charging it's not an issue. If there is an extreme emergency at night, say taking someone to a hospital, either my EV will have enough charge or I have an ICE that I try to keep between 1/2 and full.

And anyone who doesn't take advantage of deductions on their tax return is being foolish. Of course we all take the deductions but somehow when taking a deduction for an EV that becomes too much. :)

I am surprised with all the pros you have mentioned for the EV that you still need a diesel. Because we are ignorant would you mind telling us what the EV can't do that you use the diesel for.

How about pulling 10,000 lbs?

The key word is If my diesel engine implodes. I will probably get 400,000 miles or more out of my diesel engine and it’s a guarantee that you will replace your costly batteries at least once if not more and I will still be driving my Cummins. There is no way your EV batteries will last as long as my diesel, no way. So yes, you will be forking over $1000’s for new batteries and I will still be racking up miles on my diesel ICE.

Go all in on Tesla --- all you need.....
The dual- and tri-motor Cybertrucks have a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds; the forthcoming single-motor model is capped at 7500 pounds. Every Cybertruck can also haul 2500 pounds in its six-by-four-foot composite cargo bed.

Plenty of evidence that EV batteries going 300k miles. With the emission equipment on diesel trucks good chance your engine may implode.
When you own an EV come back and talk with some knowledge.

Yes, but for 80 miles before needing a charge.

No happening chief.
