Ethanol Free Gas

I use the good gas in my smaller engines but at nearly twice the cost of other gas I cannot justify the cost in my truck and the many miles I drive.

Me too. Gas was going bad long before ethanol or MTBE.
In the 70s I had a small engine business and worked at another small engine shop. Then in the 80s I worked at a power sports business. During spring/fall, we had to winterize/summerize the equipment that was going into storage. Doing that to my 10 gas engines is nothing like having to do it on 60+ with all the fuel and batteries......I don't miss it one bit now.

In another thread, I asked about a chainsaw which led to talking about what fuel to put in it. This led me to spending the extra money to buy Ethanol Free Gas for my Kawasaki Mule, lawn mowers and log splitter. In every case, they all start easier, run better and seem to have more power. That's just my opinion, which is based on my observations.

I've been so impressed with these results that I put it in my 2012 Ford F150 with the 5.0 gas engine with 155,000 miles on it. When I bought the truck new, I was getting 18 mpg, but over the years, that's worked it's way down to 14.1 mpg. I really didn't think too much about the gas that I was buying, but it was the cheapest that they had at the gas stations. I'm wondering if they have bee increasing the amount of Ethanal over the years that has led to my decrease if fuel mileage?

The last two times that I've filled up, I spend the extra money on Ethanal Free Gas. It's a separate hose, just like when you have the option for gasoline or diesel. The first tank didn't really change anything. It might of started quicker, but it's always started pretty quickly. Power seems the same. Yesterday I had to drive to Dallas and back. It's a 4 hour round trip. I filled up with Ethanol Free Gas, and this time I noticed a difference. It was quicker off the light, faster getting on the Interstate and the Miles Per Gallon reading on my dash started increasing. By the time I got to Dallas, I was up to 17.5 mpg!!! That's almost 3 1/2 Mile Per Gallon increase, which is just amazing to me.

In Lindale Texas, Regular Gas was $2.32 a gallon. Ethanol Free Gas was $2.96 a gallon. I haven't done the math, but I think the increase in mileage makes a good argument to continue buying it.

Just saw your thread today.... I'll go through the rest of it later..... wanted to add one more factor that may/not have been mentioned..... fuel-pump life.

Ethanol, IMO, is a factor in shortening fuel-pump life. Enjoy the E-free while you can; here, as part of somebody's quest to attain power @ the UN, Ethanol has been forced into ALL local gasoline within the last year. I'll see how things over-Winter here (small engines), but will probably be buying really $$$$$ cans of race-gas next year for my small engines.

You don’t think that the midwestern corn lobby and their bought politicians have anything to do with this push for ethanol in gas?

They sure try, but too few of them to get much done. They have to rely on the alarmists to get things through. The AG lobbying is more effective at the state level. They may get ag-heavy states to encourage or mandate ethanol more than other states.

Senator Grassley has been a one man corn lobby in the senate who has been very successful at maintaining ethanol requirements for gasoline.

Senators cannot technically be considered lobbyists, but I hear you.

I'm beginning to question buying Ethanol Free gas for my truck. I'm now getting 16.5 mpg. I'm driving half a mile from my house, 20 miles on the Interstate, and then another couple of miles to the job every day. Very little town driving. My mileage seems to be steadily going back down after that spike of 17.5 when I drove to Dallas and back.

The math doesn't make sense to pay .60 cents a gallon more for it, just to get a couple miles per gallon more out of it. I'm going to fill up tomorrow and I'm going to go back to the cheap stuff.

I still think it's worth the extra money for my small engines, but not for my truck.

Roger that ^.... it's been well covered, at least on TBN.....

Unfortunately, that's just a tiny part of what is going on, up here.....

Looks like you guys from Washington State won't have to worry about where to buy ethanol-free gas for your smaller engines...their use will be banned in 2 years.

This is why it's like I'm a broken record at times posting about things happening in California only to hear crazy things always happen in California... no worries here.

Time has proven what starts in California seldom stays in California.

They influence their fellow members.
Of course they do and Grassley reps Iowa, a corn producer. Manchin reps WVa., a coal producer.

I'm not nearly as concerned about Grassley as I am about Pelosi, Waters and SJL, etc representing BLM, ***** and Soros.

On the other hand no one is regulating the bombs, rockets and sinkings plus radiation leaks around war zones... crazy that starting a two stroke would make me an outlaw...

Classic cars get driven so little. Why would there be a purpose to controlling their use?
