What's your average mpg?

   / What's your average mpg? #81
Just moved across the country. My truck, a 2020 Tacoma, got 22 mpg originally. Now it gets about 18 mpg. The wife's car, a 2016 RAV4, got 31 mpg before; now about 23.

I had several cars, all stick shifts, that got 45 to 50 mpg. One got 55 mpg at 55 miles per hour on a 1000+ mile trip.
The mileagle on the RAV4 begs the question - Why the big drop?

But with electric rates at 43c (Hawaii) or even in the low 30s (CA, MA, NH, CT) that math make less sense. Triple or quadruple the electric rate and you are right back back in ICE range.
With your Tesla numbers and $0.35/kWh the cost becomes $0.1155/mile or right about 29 mpg at your posted $3.359.
Gas was $4.78 in Hawaii yesterday, so maybe run the numbers for that state?

Near as i can figure, the drop is due to the vastly increased number of stop signs and lights here. The town is very hilly, but we were in the Arizona mountains, living in a small town. When we get away from the city, the mileage goes back to about what it was before.

Sure Hawaii average electric rate is $0.44 per KWh and gas $4.78

24369.84 kwh×.44 per kwh = $10722.7296
$10722.7296 ÷73848 miles = 0.1452 per mile
$4.78 ÷ 33 mpg = 0.1448 per mile.

About 33 mpg is your break even point on pure cost per mile in Hawaii. I know there are other costs.

EDIT look like the average rate in Hawaii dropped to $.4246 per kwh
and gas is up slightly.
Current Avg.$4.793$4.989$5.243$5.726

24269.84 × .4246 = 10304.9741
10304.9741 / 73848 = 0.1395
4.793÷35 = 0.1369

So between 34 and 35 mpg to break even...

Average gas price in Los Angeles is $5.43  ...glad I'm not buying much of that.

Please post a review of your Bronco in a new thread.. We like our 2019 ranger which has promoted us to look at them.
It was the Bronco Sport which is based on the Escape platform, I assume you're talking about the larger version based on the Ranger. I liked the Sport a lot though, was a cooler version of my Escape. It was fun to drive and handled well. Only put about 3,000 miles on it though before I had to turn it in.

You can not buy gasoline for $3.359 where the electric rates are $0.35/kWh.

Tesla Solar is quoting $26k installed for a 10kW PV system. That will pay for itself pretty quick at $0.35/kWh. And you can make your own EV fuel. Just try to do that with an ICE. Lots of work to make ethanol but a PV system just runs and runs.

The math for Hawaii says it 34.5 mpg to break even with average electric and gas prices today.

True about PV but was does that size system cost?
I'm just doing the math, for me an EV could work but would steel need a truck to haul hay, feed, etc. However on less than 4000 miles a year for non hauling miles the up front costs are way to high. Last new to me vehicle was 5K going on 10 years ago.

The math is easier using 0.33 kWh/mile.

0.33 kWh/mile × $0.4246/kWh = $0.140118/mile
$4.793/gallon ÷ $0.140118/mile = 34.20 MPG$

My 2020 Ram 2500 with the gas 6.4 MPG according to the main display is averaging 16.3 (typically about.7 mpg high). However, my “B” odometer/trip meter has tracked 5751 miles which includes all driving including towing and hauling and it shows 15.9.

This 5751 includes towing hauling my tractor multiple trips, towing a 8k travel trailer about 150 miles and many trips hauling hay/feed for livestock.

I can also get 18 mpg at 70 mph using cruise control.

I don’t drive the Ram unless I have to as my car 2015 Lexus ES300H gets about 39 MPG son my commute.

That said I think the Ram has good MPG for what it is.

Well, you did it the long way same as I initially did with actual miles driven. Your way is easier for those to compare your results and my results for those mathematically challenged.

EPA rates my Model S 85 at 380 Wh/mile but I am not driving 70+ MPH very often, have a private not-utility meter on the 50A circuit in my garage to measure actual use, and observe 330 Wh/mile. You can buy utility meters on eBay. Paid $25 free shipping for a brand new digital meter. Then $35 for a box to mount it at Lowes. Have posted pictures of this installation before.

The new Model 3 and Y are EPA rated at 280 Wh/mile from the grid. While MPG numbers are often very optimistic I find the EPA's EV Wh/mile quite reasonable.

The in-car energy use display only shows power from the battery. Does not show power from the grid to charge the battery.

Very Very cool, Ford GT, have you ever posted pictures? How long have you owned it, etc. etc. Probably deserves its own thread somewhere.

Ma and Pa died 6 months apart in 2007. I was a bit down in the dumps when I went to the car show. I guess it was shopping therapy. Believe it or not they weren't moving very well and it was 06 stock they'd been sitting at the dealership for a year. Got a $12.5K discount.
Whenever I drive Raquel (so curvy) I think of the folks.
Acceleration is crazy. Had her up to 160mph on a back highway with no end in sight. The speedo moves from 120 to 160 like a regular car would from 20 to 60.
Sitting on 24000 miles and put away for the winter.
I could never justify one now. They go for $400k and up USA money.
At the time it was a little over $158K taxes in Kanuckistan money. I got that from my inheritance. They both said I should treat myself to something nice after they passed.

Both are long term averages. Living on a mountain has its disadvantages.

I have a clause in my will that no inheritance money is to be spent on lavish vacations, motor vehicles of any kind or boats. If one spend the money on such after inheritance a claw back provision is activate and the money they were supposed to receive divided amongst the other heirs.

I have a cousin with a 2023 Buick Enclave Avenair 3.6L 32/25.

I like the vehicle and asked him what mileage he was getting and his response was less than what they advertised it to be. So I looked it up and found this.

2023 Buick Enclave FWD 6 cyl, 3.6 L, Automatic 9-spd
21 combined city/highway MPG 18 city 26 highway
