So strange on TBN there's the Battery based vehicle thread, basically a handful of posters who are Elon worshipers. I posed so many questions, lots of nasty replies and I said choices...what's wrong with choices? We're led to believe the EV switch is saving the planet which does the opposite! Finally I was told basically if Bob wants to spend $60K on a Tesla, what's the difference? He would have spent $60K on a BMW anyway.
I'm amazed how many sheeple-people there are, no reasoning, but doing things by succumbing to compliance (i.e., mandate), or trying to impress, or being "woke" (woke is a joke).
I hate being lied to!

Best thing you can do now is prepare. I really hate it. If you can't produce you are going to have to live by their rules. There are going to be a lot of people pretending that plant based or lab grown meat is delicious in the next few years. We are determined to not be in that group.

It's a terrifying thought; my brain and body are not where they ought be, through poor decisions I've made all on my own. I'm trying to improve, to get where I'll need to be for my family, but even with years of head start I'm not where I ought to be. I'm pretty good at self-sabotage, so having wrenches thrown into the mix isn't doing me any favors.

Of course, that's the point I suppose.

Why is buying a 60K EV compared to an ICE vehicle? Last I saw there’s plenty of 5-10K used ICE vehicles out there for sale.

We are in the same boat. Nowhere near where we need to be. Our debt is my biggest worry. We have invested so much into what we have going on it scares me. We have not gone out to eat, we dont buy new clothes, or cars or really anything materialistic everything we buy is geared to being able to take care of ourselves. Most of our debt is farm supplies and tools.

Exactly. Now, don't get me wrong...this certainly isn't my dream car ()...but a brand new Elantra at a dealer near me. MSRP $22K. We've had them before. 100K mile/10 yr. warranty. 40mpg hwy. They ride & handle ok. All we want to do is grocery shop, restaurant, take a vacation...it gets the job done.
Electricity isn't free, although some believe paying $××,××× for solar panels it is free!
How much gas can you buy if you save $30-$40K?
We were in a friend's brand new Elantra a few years ago, stopped at a light, rear-ended and car totalled but we were fine.
I just can't understand the joy of an EV. Imagine a vacation...waiting for a charge?
A friend bought one and their electric bill doubled! That amount included miles driven is more than we pay for fuel!

IMHO GM will go belly up and they just got I don't remember if it was $900 billion from congress and they do;n't seem to be selling
very many cars/trucks. Ford with there problems are not doing very well either don't know about Chrystler
The idiots want to do away with COAL, OIL so what will power all
these so; call electric cars/trucks???????? People with electric
cars will deffently have to have solar power as the grid can not or
will not be capable of supply all the electric power needed.
When congress steps in its like a case of Hemorrhoids as you
can do very nicely without them!!!!!!!!!

Why is the cost of a new vehicle compared to a new vehicle? That 5-10k used ice may have been 50k new? What is the argument?

Don’t know much about a Lightning, why is a charger/connection so expensive? What is a Tesla connector now? $500-600?

I expect it will be a long long time before EVs are mandated in Texas… we like our fossil fuels. Enjoy my EV as well. Glad to have the choice.

Imagine what electricity will cost when they take away gasoline!

That’s the end game right there. That’s their unicorn & rainbow dream.
They can also control the flow of it and who gets it.

I’m guessing Ford goes first. They lost billions on EV’s in the last few quarters.
They are woke as crazy gets and are hemorrhaging cash.

My guess is the G____ment will flood their coffers with more money confiscated by American taxpayers, or they will print more causing inflation to worsen.

I hope you're wrong. I think Ford is in better shape than GM.

Electric rates have almost doubled here in 2 years... And they are petitioning to raise them again. This cheap energy, is oddly getting more costly as people move to it

Or more than likely, at least in my opinion, the price to charge electric vehicles will skyrocket once we're all forced into one mode of power, aka a monopoly of sorts. That's what our power corp here in NS is like, one company so they can pretty much charge what they want.
I can also see HD's scenario, "oops, we don't have enough power today, lets cut the EV charging" With smart meter's becoming the norm, they'll be able to tell when you have the toaster plugged twice in one morning.

This cheap energy, is oddly getting more costly as people move to it
Yup, once the companies realize they're missing out a on a cash cow, it's to be expected. Our rates went up 7% I think it was a couple of months ago with the base rate almost doubling going from $10.83 to $19.17 a jump of almost 90%. We've got no choice as there's one company.

They are cowards. Just say that there are too many people and you want the poor to die. Nothing lifts poor people out of poverty like cheap energy. Everything in your house, in your freezer and refrigerator, everything parked in your driveway, everything you have is a result of cheap energy. The more poor people the more control you can exert. USA middle class is very close to being finished off and they are ecstatic.
Winner, Winner.... best get your chicken dinner before it's outlawed.....

Initially, one or two aspects were irritating.... but THIS ^ long-game is the literal killer. ALL forms of energy are being driven up in price, very deliberately. It would be bad enough, if it was just greed.... but it's way more sinister.

And.... it's not just the cost, as bad as that is. California's grid reliability continues to decay, in no small part due to the large amount of their operating budget being diverted to Alt NRG projects, and away from traditional line-maintenance. Zero-Sum Game. I won't be surprised if that ^ nonsense is also a factor in the Maui fires....

Most of us like to make fun of Cali.... but, there is the Time factor...... unfortunately, much of what looked weird in Cali/Left Coast 20 or so years ago is now more "normal" elsewhere.....

So, you end up with a grid that is way less reliable, delivery much more expensive electricity. So, unless this is being run by total idiots (not the case, IMO), we are being forced into a future where way less people can afford to be mobile, AND the ones who can afford at least the loan for an EV will have their mobility constrained much of the time, due to the ongoing "Climate Crisis"..... Notwithstanding the Gulfstream-class, who will continue to flit about the World, lecturing us on how evil us peasants are.....

Right now, I can go to a fuel station, with legal-tender (cash) in my pocket, and buy any reasonable amount of gasoline or diesel that I want, put it in approved legal containers, and I'm good.

I do appreciate that ^ statement now, today.... but it will read as peak-freedom/mobility, once all the EV fleet is under grid/computer control.....

The companies are the forward-face, and they are bad enough.

Govt-side.... just look up what their Annual Take is, on fuel-taxes - any jurisdiction.... it's a staggering amount of money. THIS factor alone, will mean that electricity cost/taxes are going to continue to skyrocket, in the next decade.

All while increasing interests rates and saying they are doing so to "bring inflation down".

While it is true that increasing interest rates will bring down inflation, they cannot push the brakes on that side while gunning the accelerator on the spending side.
