I wanted to trade in a 25 hp Branson on a hydrostat Branson unit. Dealer said they don't take trades but gave me the phone number of a guy who does.

Turns out the guy is an LS dealer 250 miles away. I contacted him and told him I had the branson and a 63 Ford 2000 I wanted to trade on a tractor.

As it turned out we got to talking about what I was looking for and he offered some suggestions he had on the lot.

I sent him pictures, he gave me a price taking my 2 tractors in trade, included delivering the new and picking up the trade-in tractors.

Couldn't be happier with my little LS2 25s.

Your Branson dealer didn't lose your business, he actively ran from it. 🤣

The honest answer is, these tractors are JUNK. This may offend some, however, the truth usually does.
You lit a fire. Some people always complain about sucking hind tit when it comes to service, dealer treatment, etc. Truth Is if they could have afforded a major brand they would have bought it. They should stop bashing the major brands just because they couldn’t buy one.

I’ve been noticing that some tractor dealers won’t accept TYM, LS, Branson, Bad Boy, or Mahindra tractors on trade. That may make it more difficult to sell/trade your tractor if you own one of those brands. Are these dealers being uppity about their brand or do you think they have legit business reasons for doing so? I’ve never seen a car dealer not accept another brand before so why do tractor dealers do it?

I've had three dealers in the last 6 months say they won't take my 770 hour Mahindra in trade and I thought it was because it needs seals replaced which is a labor intensive job. Then I asked the owner of the Mahindra dealer that sold it to me if they'd repair it and take it back in to sell on consignment (meaning I would own it until it sold, but they'd get a percentage for selling). They weren't interested saying tractor sales were slowing. Oh, and the service department still hasn't my calls about repairing it even after speaking with the owner.

Two of the Kubota dealers said they have trouble getting parts for Mahindra. The third dealer wasn't a Kubota dealer, but said they have trouble reselling Mahindras.

Massey Ferguson used to have a good presence here in rural Middle Tennessee, but their dealer network has really dried up compared to what they once were. A friend needs the clutch replaced in his MF and can't find anyone to do it nearby.
Mahindra also made some MF

TYM arent that bad - value for money.

Anything from China will be slow with parts - more luck with Taiwan (& generally better quality)

Also, these big names also have the capital to corner the market and compromise competition.....So what you get is an often manipulated supply and demand scenario that limits peoples choices. Many do not want the more difficult journey to research "outside the box" and possibly find details that are not on the surface or in the fanfare.
Large retail (Lowe’s, Home Dumpo, etc) and microwave food franchises are what the consumers are accepting as good enough. Auto dealership practices are moving into the tractor market. Sometimes, the internet influence really stinks.

Your truth perhaps as there is no "honesty" in your post whatsoever.
I am not offended in the least and your red herring "offended" has nothing to do with "the truth".
All of these tractors are quite serviceable with Branson being built like tanks.
I have previously stated why dealers do not take off brands and has way more to do with familiarity of product and parts inventory.
I once had a John Deere dealership refusing to take in trade my John Deere tractor because of relinquishing parts inventory.

Let me add that the canary in the coal mine is weakness in brands the dealers don't want. Not all companies have to survive and prosper. Things evolve and indicators are there long before.

Did you know that half the current Dow 30 companies were not in the index 25 years ago? Only five have been in the list for 50 years and only one company, GE has been around since the Dow expanded to 30 companies in 1928.
