Dealers Not Accepting Some Brands on Trade

Wait a minute. We're blaming dealers for not buying inventory that is slow moving, often problematic in parts or service and probably at a price that is above market levels. The customer wants to get in a better brand and unload the less desirable tractor on the dealer so they can take the resale risk. Is that a good business model?

Capitalism is we all act individually in our own self interest and the market tells us the value of everything. Eventually, marginal quality will improve or perish and quality goods will command a price that others can aspire to. Or perish.

There's two things going on here.
1. Many here do not know what it takes to run a retail, goods and services business especially in the current atmosphere.
2. Tractors are not like "cars" in the least in terms of trade value or market share.
There is little to no comparison.

Very interesting read, read all 15 pages. Personally I can't blame the dealers as I wouldn't buy one of the more obscure brands either. For the first time in 39 years, I bought a mower from a dealer this year. It was a trade in, and was priced to sell as is. Generally the only thing I buy from dealers is parts.

I’ve been noticing that some tractor dealers won’t accept TYM, LS, Branson, Bad Boy, or Mahindra tractors on trade. That may make it more difficult to sell/trade your tractor if you own one of those brands. Are these dealers being uppity about their brand or do you think they have legit business reasons for doing so? I’ve never seen a car dealer not accept another brand before so why do tractor dealers do it?

Around here many brands are hard sell I think. Most off brands do not have very good dealer support. JD and kubota is what we see mostly when out driving around the farms. Many years back Massy was popular but lost their respect. New Holland has a good size dealer to the north but I seldom see many other than a few large units in the fields. Lots of older IH tractors still running, they seem to go forever too as I see the same ones in the field I saw many years ago but no dealer for them that I know of.
When government runs off all the cows and cattle things really change and not for the good IMO-

I think as the popularity increases the off brand tractor will become more acceptable to dealers,the newer brands need a better network of dealers and staff who are competent to handle working on them.They have their work cut out for them competing with over hundred year old manufacturers who have a history

Your opinion isn't truth, and it offends because at best you're too ignorant to understand that.

There are so many arguments for and against all the various manufacturers; from politics, to ergonomics, to dealership and parts. Those are real, legitimate arguments. You popping in here, spouting your opinion as fact, treating it like it's some universal truth- that's the behavior of internet trolls, and teenagers, which are you?

Offend? No. Truth only "hurts" when you come to the realization of truth yourself. Not when someone you dont know at all makes a statement. What you have is a opinion.

I just want to thank the OP for starting this thread. The discussion has helped me think through the issues I'm facing trying to repair vs trade or sell my Mahindra.

I wanted to trade in a 25 hp Branson on a hydrostat Branson unit. Dealer said they don't take trades but gave me the phone number of a guy who does.

Turns out the guy is an LS dealer 250 miles away. I contacted him and told him I had the branson and a 63 Ford 2000 I wanted to trade on a tractor.

As it turned out we got to talking about what I was looking for and he offered some suggestions he had on the lot.

I sent him pictures, he gave me a price taking my 2 tractors in trade, included delivering the new and picking up the trade-in tractors.

Couldn't be happier with my little LS2 25s.
