COYOTES

Anything I can do to steer them away from the house?
Anyone have any issues with bold ones sticking around while out at night?

I've dealt with bears and feral dogs before, but didn't even know the coyote was around until last month. Last sighting in this area was about 2 years ago.

Do you have a dog?

I have found urine to be effective in moving them along. They pass through the field next to the house but yet to venture into our yard space.

They come onto my land and the dogs chase them off. But the coyotes are back at night when the dogs are inside.

Nothing a fast moving, highly frangible varmint bullet couldn't sort out.

Depending on the environmental conditions in your area, "dog pee" on the ground can be like ringing a dinner bell. 'Yotes like to eat family pets. Less work than chasing down a wild rabbit. Easy pickings if they can get the dumb dog to follow (chase) them into the rest of the waiting pack. That's one of the key reasons they are such an adaptive predator. They're smart, and they hunt in groups.

Always good to have country dogs in at least pairs. Coyotes also want to avoid being injured themselves. They will not take on a pair of GSDs or similarly sized/capable 'pets'.

A couple of these coyotes roam my property for wild rabbits and turkeys. WGI_0012.JPG

If you LGDs the roles are reversed. Mine will actively seek them out and remove them dead or alive. The ones I turn out when needed are 140 -160 pounds and fast enough to run with deer. My oldest guy used to try to sniff deer butts, they are not fond of that.
