My tractor is a dk40se. 1550hrs.

Problem I'm having is that it will hot shut off with the key.

To shut it off I have to do it manually at the solenoid.

Any suggestions?

Is your solenoid “energized to run” or “energized to shut off”.??

Replace the solenoid?

there is a relay that controls the solenoid, all i know its not the one detailed in the diagnostic manual. its the one next to it. i dont recall, but i think there held open with power, so maybe unhooking relay will kill it??? been too lnot to recall. i had to replace my relay years ago.

the relays are under hood, on firewall. there the 2 on the left hand side looking at the firewall. have someone hold their hand to it when you turn key on. they should feel the click.

could also be the key switch .... need to do some testing i fear

Should be 2 (or 3) 5 pin relays under the hood, as grs says, controlling the starter and fuel solenoid. They are all the same and you can swap them around to see if the one that controls the fuel solenoid is faulty. Just 5 pin Bosch type relays. Cheap on Amazon.

So the solenoid is fine. I tested it on the bench and it works fine.
Issue is that I am only getting 1V to the stop solenoid pull wire. The solenoid hold wire gives 12v no problem.

I swapped the starter and stop solenoid relays and it acts just the same.

Any suggestions? Could the display unit (which I understand controls the ss relay) be bad or should I look somewhere simpler and cheaper?

1 volt..??
R u checking it while cranking it.??

As I understand it, when the key is put to the run position, a quick 12v signal is sent to the pull wire to retract the solenoid. I don't get 12v when I do this, only 1v or so which is not enough to retract the stop solenoid.

Am I correct in this?

I musta been sleep walking last night..
I’m under the impression that it takes A LOT OF AMPS to pull in the plunger on the solenoid.. therefore it gets its voltage from the starter..??
So u won’t see anything on ur meter unless u crank the engine.. give THAT a try..
It just depends on if u have a 2 or 3 wire solenoid.

Not sure about yours but, most of the ones I have worked on to include a recent John Deere 4 cylinder is the fuel cutoff solenoid is normally closed. Meaning it takes power from the key switch to energize the solenoid allowing fuel to pass, turning the key off removes power to the solenoid.

Boss302 that is how this system is suppose to work. My question is do I have a failed display module (is that where the 12v pull signal originates from)?

Let me look in my service manual, i cant remember exactly what holds and releases this circuit. I worked on mine about 5 years ago, turned out it was a defective solenoid. Mines a 2011 series dk45.

You can start here. With resistance readings. Let me look further

Note that voltage is only recorded for 1 second when key is turned off

I would think that the 12 volt power to the solenoid would come directly from a separate 12 volt fused source and be connected to a normally open set of contacts on a relay and the coil of this relay would be activated by a 12 volt source activated by the ignition switch when it is in the start and run positions. I wouldn't think that a defective display module would effect the fuel circuit.

So the question is, where does the 1sec 12v signal to the pull stop solenoid wire come from? If I can figure that out I've found my problem.

I would look closely at the engine stop relay and the wires going to it.

The 1 second delay comes from display unit
