I know the original oil burner on the farmhouse growing up was a coal conversion, with coal apparently shoveled down a chute through a window.
then Mr Beckett came to town and stayed.
Have never heated with coal.

and because I had a Depression era Dad, i was threatened with a lump of coal for Christmas if I wasn't good. I think he did wrap up a chunk one year...

I wish we could heat with steam from a trash to steam plant burning the Grows Landfill in Lower Bucks.
Make it go away instead of piling it higher.
We have the technology to do this, we don't have the will power.

what happens when all the landfills meet each other?

Hope all are warm, safe and where they want to be.

Wife is in private room and may be discharged in a day or so. We have been here before so no big deal. Miss my girls though. Docs said all went well. Just need clean bill of health from pathology. Double vision was an issue last night....to many drugs. Neurologist was called in and still checked out good.

Me...had fun trekking the ice storm in Batimore. Wow...impressive momma nature.

Merry Christmas to you all. Enjoy your time with family and friends.

67°F and no rain.

Not sure what I’ll get into today, maybe that trip to town that didn’t happen yesterday. Good chance I’ll err on side of energy conservation though

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

One good thing about this cold snap is we are finding all the places that need to be re-caulked. . . 🫤

Does anyone have any recommendations on a decent thermal imager? I don’t need a $15G one, just something that I can look for the air leaks.

With our 50 mph winds and -15 degree temp, all I need is my finger (not even wet) to see where the cold is coming in. This 100 year old house still leaks a bit, even with insulation and new "good" windows.

My house has the chimney effect. From the foundation to the roof the walls are framed straight up. No breaks for floors.

We burned coal in the basement furnace since it was built for oil/wood and coal. But must have caused some residual in the air and it made wife very congested so stopped it.
On trash burning I had the O&M contract for several years for the Semass plant in MAS built by Bechtel. We did set up a recovery system for coins found in the ash and recovered if I remember right about 100000 dollars a year.
It is amazing what people throw out without realizing it. In 10000 tons a day of trash going up the conveyer I was alway looking for a jackpot of some kind
Also got tired of replacing the roof over the pulverizers because of explosions from gas cans propane dynamite who knows what. So changed it to canvas and had several ready to go.
