Good Morning!!!! 46F @ 5:00AM. Partly cloudy. High 58F. Winds light and variable.
Looks like nice weather for the weekend, but rain starts Monday night and lasts through the end of the 10-day.

Hope everyone is staying warm in this horrible weather.

I've got a Coleman stove just like that, KJC, and a modern, propane version, too. I've used the propane version during previous summer power outages, resting it atop the propane stove. With no power, the safety solenoid in the range won't flow any propane.

Refilled the hummingbird feeders yesterday. There are a dozen or so that are wintering here, more than I've ever seen before.

Spent most of yesterday taking apart another brush pile, limbing the trees, and stacking the logs. The slash went on the burn pile, which stayed lit all day. I'm hoping there are enough coals left this morning that it'll fire up again without any help from me. I need to refill some propane bottles this morning, then it's back to limbing and stacking. Probably need to fuel up the tractor today as well.

Hope everyone enjoys their Christmas weekend...
The white gas version will work in lower temperatures than propane stoves/lanterns will, and sometimes, even if you get the propane to light, the evaporation in the tank will drop the temp enough that it won’t evaporate anymore, even if there is no regulator.

My house has the chimney effect. From the foundation to the roof the walls are framed straight up. No breaks for floors.
Great for pulling wires, terrible if there is a fire. . .

Good morning to all and Merry Christmas Eve!
Low was a nice 23°, dew point is -25.6° ---- no chance of precip with that! No wind except for light breezes.

Hope everyone is able to tolerate the cold temps / snow / freezing rain. Sounds nasty for sure! Stay safe out there!

KP went well, the infamous homemade pierogies are done! Tough job for the wifey, but mmmm, mmm, good! Ham has defrosted, so ready to go tomorrow.

Wifey would like some fried chicken for dinner tonight.... not set in stone yet, maybe some Chinese take out instead.

Son and 2 GS's will be over later evening and then again tomorrow. We will do videochat with the rest of the family tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a chance for last minute prep and has a peaceful day!

We built also several plants that burned waste coal that was left over from mining of coal and I had the O&M contract for the Gilberton plant Frackville PA. The owner of the plant Johnny Rich had a huge building down the street with veteran cars and full time mechanics. it was not open to the public but he let me visit often. Always was interesting. Not sure what happened to his collection?

Good morning, sun is out and it's up to 9 degrees and windy, still.
Made it to the light show, trees with lights were certainly dancing!

Kilroy - I have one of those green coleman stoves downstairs from our family camping trips as a child.

PopG - sounds like a winter adventure, one zone with a greenhouse? Good save. Glad puppy found comfy place.

Happy birthday to the Wife BEF!

RipTides - glad wife is out of surgery and all looks well.

Doors were frozen shut on truck, remote start to the rescue.

Today prep for tomorrow and eve with friends, been going over their house Christmas eve since my wife and I started dating. I think we missed one year while traveling, watched their kids grow up.

Day after Christmas with BIL. So pretty quiet this year.

Presents are wrapped!

Be Well and have a Merry Christmas

I'm fortunate to have several heating options, my primary main source is an oil fired hot water boiler, I also have a coal insert in my fireplace that I normally use for an auxiliary unit to reduce my oil by about 50%, then I also have a couple of 36,000 BTU mini-splits for moderate temperature.
Then the 25 KW generator for when the power fails. As well as the catalytic propane heaters for the grill bottles. Very handy when the power is out for spot heating in basements for plumbing.
This year I haven't started my coal because of several factors but it would not that long to get it up and going.

The waste to energy plants were a good idea.
I would like to see some composting land fill style methane production plants built. Separate out none composables,
then compost the rest in bunkers with methane collection systems, use the methane and then seperate the composted material into usable compost landfill the small amount left.
Or else get back on the nuclear energy train.
