Drew, KIA and Ford have "Adaptive" cruise is that the same as "Supercruise" in GM, or it it something different?
How many of us read KIA and our first thought is "Killed in Action"?
Lost too many buddies there.
/edit - and then Ford is sometimes referred to as "Found on road dead", although I've had many (3 presently) and they didn't die

regular cruise control just uses speedometer.
adaptive cruise uses radar sensors looking forward to detect, and maintain, distance between you and car in front.
Usually teamed with autostop feature, where car will stop if deer/pedestrian/car in front and it calculates you will crash into it if something isn't done immediately.
Then you start getting into higher levels of automated driving, which use a wide variety of sensors and really is more a function of the software/datamapping available.
GM has the best software, proven time and again. And they just made it better, more secondary roads now covered. Ford comes in second, not as good as GM.
Tesla has been doing this a long time. And of course we hear about all of them driving into the back of police cars and ambulances while the driver was totally inattentive.
I haven't read where the GM software has done very much of that.

Other systems like Ford rely on GPS also. The Feds are now investigating Tesla for making false claims about self driving capabilities.
We may see some retrenchment here.

without a national highly accurate gps system, supercruise would not work. It pinpoints you to within three inches on the road I believe.
Would take me a long long time to trust it on a dangerous curve. But on the stretch between Austin and Albuquerque or anywhere in the Plains, why not
let the car do the driving? Won't get speeding tickets that way. Better gas mileage. Always can be overridden. If one is paying attention.
Until they make the supercruise software as safe as a train, where you keep your distance safely from everything else, I'll being paying attention.
Apparently lot of folks driving Teslas don't. They trust their software too much.

Bosch and the Germans took an early lead on adaptive cruise. My 2004 Jaguar had a first gen adaptive cruise. It worked, nowhere nearly as well as one on Volvo.
I think Mercedes brought out adaptive cruise with forward sensors around 2000. Am surprised Germans have not kept the lead here technologically,
but seems he who has the best maps here wins.

Am wondering when Starlink comes out with something hightech that works even better.
Don't forget to drive during tunnels..............

Morning all, rain has moved out and it's only going to 51 , but the sun is up.
Son and friend dropped off and later picked up in Doylestown for them to have dinner and shop.
Late night for me as the chauffeur.

So, the dog. Ends up she has ringworm and about $175 later with tests, ointment and shampoo we are treating her.
The only thing we can think of is kids petting her at Peddlars village last weekend.
Seems parents don't understand how to keep their kids clean and disease free anymore

Seems like none of us got it, or my sons friends, luckily.

Garage project stalled for vet visit, but did get some supplies.

Delay to wife going to pistol lesson as she is still coughing and not feeling well, her birthday is tomorrow.

This plane crash reminds me of some of the friends i lost in the air force. Very sad these hard working crews who are trying to keep the memory and planes alive have this happen.
Hopefully this will be a lessons learned and never happen again. So many people affected.

I did some consulting for Subaru a while back, watching the technology change in cars is something else. Was privy to what they were doing for a while, lots of thought and always lawyers involved. Was such a caring company to work for, great people and dedication to reducing injuries.

Popgadget, no wonder your money is no good at that restaurant, you take very good care of them.

Newbury, the Nazis marched at least ten of my family off to the gas chambers in Belzec in 1942.
I had to make peace with that to buy a German car again.

If you study South Korea, it really isn't so rosy.
Huge conglomerates called cabals run the whole place and these five cabals, including Hyundai and Samsung
have a huge control over that country. Reminds me of Russia without all the crooks at top.
They have succeeded by teaming a great work effort with mostly copied Japanese tech and have been hugely successful.
New Genesis cars are simply excellent.
Millions of South Korean cars have been sold here.
And soon, the Chinese.

And now Volvo is owned by Geely, the Chinese GM.

Subaru is awesome. They have corporate integrity. Good old fashioned Japanese quality and fair pricing.
Early investor in US manufacturing. Nice people at dealership. Their car AI called Eyesight uses a lot of cameras and overall beeps too much.
Constantly alerting you about some perceived peril out there.

take a modern car through a car wash and it will sound like it's being molested. Squealing in electronic offense.

Ken, don't piss off your wife when she has a gun in her hand...

Good morning to all! Low of 24°, only going up to 45°. Sunny, but changing dramatically by this afternoon. Becoming windy, colder, and chance of 1-3" of snow overnight. Where did this come from? --- wasn't forecast 2 days ago....

Paul, sorry to hear that your friend was on the flight. Prayers for his family.

Mostly, I'll try to keep the door closed to keep the wind / cold up this way.... no promises to you Texas guys.....

Drew, I hardly ever even use cruise control.... I think it would be very difficult for me to trust the "new" electronic control......

Ken, sorry to hear about the ringworm.... at least the vet figured it out. A fairly simple treatment. She'll be back to normal in no time!

Today's agenda will involve some seat time.... going to utilize the tractor bucket to haul all the marigolds (now freeze dried) out of the courtyard area. There must be millions of seed on those dried plants. I'll spread them out along the back fence line.... maybe some will pop up in the spring. You can barely touch them and hundreds of seeds drop.... we may be inundated with marigolds......
A before pic:

Wifey's honey locust seeds are growing fast.... these are around 3 weeks old. At this rate, we will have a forest in the house by spring.....

The daughter and kids are on their way back from the Giddings Tx. area. Should be here to retrieve my MIL around 4-5 pm this afternoon. It was a good visit.

Need to get moving....

Everyone have a great day!

Sorry to hear about your family members lost. It makes me feel good that my country smuggled all (10000) Jews out of the country to Sweden without loosing any during WWII

66°F and .09 inches rain, most of it this past hour and still raining.

Nice dinner out with friends.

Took a call from neighbor just after dark. Got his Kubota stuck while brushhogging neighbor. Says it is down slope into neighbor’s pond sitting about 45-50°. Not in water but mired and no longer running. Will be checking it out when it stops raining. I seriously doubt I can pull it out with just my LS as he has filled tires and there will be no traction if wet. Says he forgot the pond was there. Could be a challenge. While I’ll do my best my primary objective will be not to worsen situation or get stuck myself.

Other than that, maybe watch some football.

Still haven’t come to grips with passing of Roy. Find myself thinking a lot about him. Perhaps a bit strange for someone never met in person, but…

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Not in water but mired and no longer running

Sounds like a job for an excavator

Says he forgot the pond was there.

that's pretty hard to do.
neighbor's pond, not his though. Hope he didn't suck any water in.
I'd call a tow truck or find something much bigger to pull on it.
Sorry David, you are a little far away for us to come help.

I take back what I said.
Can see how he was fooled by the tall grass

38F and cloudy @ 14:00, calling for a high of around 41F today. Sun was peeking out earlier.

A little better tomorrow with a high of around 44F and a mix of sun and clouds. Probably work on mowing/mulching leaves and general outside clean up tomorrow as that appears to be the warmest day in the Ten Day.

Hopper feeder definitely needs refilled so that will be the first order of business this afternoon.

Then head over to pole barn and get water line blown out.

Probably gather up some tools while I'm over there and bring those back to the house.

Beyond that will have to see what else comes up.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday ... (y)

Drew, i read an article not too long ago that talked about Starlink-GPS possibility. Guessing that would help Tesla.

21°F and partly cloudy this morning, up to 39° now. The sun has already melted a good portion of the snow from Saturday morning.

Ron, I passed through Breese this morning on the way to Tractor Supply in Carlyle to get chicken feed. Took old US-50 all the way there. I like it better than the new highway, for some reason.
I also stopped at the Carlyle Walmart to get some things for The Wife. They have gone 100% self-checkout. Sad.

Wife and I both drive KIAs. We've had seven (I think) between the two of us over the years.
There is a river running near us named the Kaskaskia River. It's the one they dammed to form Carlyle Lake. Every time I hear that name, my mind repeats it as "Cass-Cass-KIA."
I have issues. 🤪

Good afternoon, gents.

Here is the story of the Danish Jews rescued during WWII:

   / Good morning!!!! #158,897
my favorites were always the jokes about Lucas being the Prince of Darkness. Except I remember it as Queen of Darkness....same idea
  • Not many people know that Land Rovers attempted to market a computer. Why did they stop? They could not find a way to get it to leak oil!
  • A Land Rover doesn´t leak oil, it marks it´s territory. Did you hear about the man whose Land Rover didn't leak oil? The factory took it backand worked on it until it did.
  • Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night? They all look the same. " - "He replied, "It does not matter which one you use, nothing happens !"
  • The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."
  • Lucas is the patent holder for the short circuit.
  • Lucas - Inventor of the first intermittent wiper.
  • Lucas - Inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.
  • The three position Lucas switch - Dim, Flicker and Off.
  • The Original Anti-Theft Device - Lucas Electrics.
  • >Lucas is an acronym for Loose Unsoldered Connections and Splices
  • Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random frequency.
  • Why do the British drink warm beer? A: Because Lucas makes their refrigerators
  • Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone.Thomas Edison invented the Light Bulb. Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit.
  • Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas equipment: Check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk three times clockwise around your car chanting:" Oh mighty Prince of Darkness protect your unworthy servant.."
and of course as a proper Brit, keep a stiff upper lip in the dark...

The thing that saved me on the many British bikes I had was that the magneto ignition usually worked even if the rest of the Lucas system crapped out. But had to drive home in the dark without lights many times. No alternator and the generators were unreliable.

Not looking too promising. Neighbor off to talk to those with better equipment, way beyond my capability but will assist if I can
