Well I understand it is wonderful. What for? Why use one? What was its' purpose compared to a plain old shaft?
Oliver did it simply because on most tractros, removing the trans for work entails a split. With an Oliver, there is no split unless it's a clutch job.

This is what you are looking at. The master link is circled in red. Use a small screwdriver to slide the keeper back then you can start taking the link apart. Once the front of the link is off the rest will slide out the back side. Once you start it will make since.

I see. The split link is the same design as on a bicycle chain. That's how the chain comes apart.

Yes but you can take the shaft out without moving engine or pump.
