WOW! Looks like I have a pretty good memory as a then 6 year old.

You might find this interesting. Takes about 10 minutes to read. The train was going 70mph out at Bendix, the brakes failed, the emergency brakes failed after slowing it to 40ish mph, the train swerved violently through the S curves, took out the catenary wires, killing possibility of reversing the traction motors, and proceeded into down town, taking out 6 cars and crashing at the end terminus. There were 5 lines in the end yard, not 3, but I was 6 years old, so, hey! 🙃

Interesting locomotive, at first I thought it might have been an ex-UP GE U50 with the BBBB truck arrangement, but the U50s had radiators at both ends of the carbody for dual prime movers, but this one only had a radiator on the rear, so most likely has only one prime mover. Cab is similar to the comfort cabs used on most North American locomotives. Almost looks like a stretched Dash 9.

Looks like my guess on a stretched Dash 9 was correct.
Why they would opt for four trucks instead of two three acle trucks is interesting, especially since it is a lightweight locomotive. Maybe because of axle load limits?

Smaller traction motors can't handle as much power as standard gauge motors, so they need more of them to handle the horsepower.

Their earlier large narrow gauge EMD DDM45 locomotives had 4-axle "D" trucks.

That's cool, never saw the 4 axle trucks on anything other than the DD-35A/Bs and the DDA-40Xs'
I saw one of the last remaining DDA-40AX Centennials that UP has on display in Omaha years ago on a trip to Wyoming. That thing's almost 100 feet long and weighs 545,000 lbs. Impressive piece of machinery. There are 11 Centennials in existence yet, at museums and parks.
UP used two of them and an SD-40, I think, to get 15,000 hp to pull container trains over the route to the west coast and back.

GM and a railroad, don't know which one, experimented shipping Chevy Vegas vertically in special cars for a short time. Didn't look like a good idea to me.

What could possibly go wrong?
