185 Hydro starting intermittently

Looking for assistance and/or electrical diagram to help troubleshoot. Press brake and turn key, starter will not engage. I know there is a safety switch attached to the brake petal, switch tests ok. Is there a switch attached to the hydrostatic lever, for a neutral position?

Appreciate any help I can get.

Are you saying starter doesn't make a sound (like a click) or it spins but doesn't engage the flywheel to turn over the engine?

When I press the brake and turn the key it does click but will not spin the starter. Is it possibly solenoid issue?

First remove and replace battery cable connections after cleaning each at both ends. Also consider getting a new battery or at least get this one load tested.

This is based on the OP comment "it does click but will not spin the starter". Sounds battery 12v related.

The John Deere Part number is AM107421 and will cost about $50 plus tax. Or use the diagram and source the parts from a auto zone store or other parts house.

@beenthere I cleaned the battery connections and tested the battery, battery was good. Still same issue.....Then I removed the wiring plug at the ignition switch, sprayed contact cleaner and cleaned a few of the spades on the ignition switch, replaced connector and now it seems to start every time I hit the switch..... Guess it was a bad connection at the ignition switch... And thanks for your help and suggestions....Tom
