Good luck finding a lifetime battery warranty!
I do miss the days of lifetime warranties…

Did real well on lifetime Battery and Auto Parts plus household plumbing fixtures and Craftsman products.

But then I still own the car I drove in school and the home I bought 1984

If diesel became in short supply I would consider it, leaving the fuel for producers who needed it more. Other than that probably not.

Ev tractor of course
Big difference between ev car and tractor. Typically tractor is constantly under load far greater than ev car. Typically under load comes excessive heat. Heat manifest in amperage draw to run high torque motor s in tractor either from draw bar activity or PTO and or both. Lot of development is still to be done for a ev tractor. What benefits are there to jump into ev tractor. Typically tractors run more than 12 hours per day if large grain farm. Literally you would need to swap out batteries in the field to keep going for larger farm operations. Compact ev tractor would make more sense yet there are drawbacks to this application.

Let’s get infrastructure for EV’s cars and trucks inplace first. Then grow the base to tractors with confidence.

EV’s vehicles are still in infancy period and will be until mainstream buyers can purchase vehicles under 30k in price without US funding at 7.5k per vehicle.

No doubt there is groundswell on EV’s regarding new technologies. But not everything new is good until it’s perceived good by value through feedback.

EV’s are coming that is given based on current political climate. we as consumers need to understand which ones are providing value not all will.

Buyer beware…..make sure you have infrastructure in place before buying and EV. Otherwise you are chasing charging stations level 2 and 3 in your neck of the woods.

Progress is good if it’s managed and planned well.

That's just the thing. EV cars are not really progress. They hinder progress toward better alternatives. Hydrogen Fuel Cells are already superior technology, but are ignored because the masses do not understand what they are. Hybrids are a much better interim option as they expand fossil fuel use while we develop real lasting sol. They also do not require a large expenditure of resources on infrastructure. This is especially true because the scientists already know that we cannot do EV in the long term. Nevertheless, we will spend trillions to use them for 30 years or less.

Tractors aren’t there yet, but I’m a “yes,” eventually. I will limp along my ailing MF until that market develops. I’ve had an EV car for about four years and recently bought a second one for the missus. Never going back. Don’t miss gas stations, don’t miss oil changes, don’t miss check engine lights, don't miss emissions testing, don’t miss gas prices.

I would hate to need to replace tge battery on an EV, 15K-20K, or buy a used EV and the find out it’s battery time ☹️

There is more to it that just the technology though. Public adoption is a significant factor, and for the most part, the Hydrogen still comes from natural gas, so is still a fossil fuel. On that basis, while *arguably* a superior technology, it does not adequately meet the goals of the buyers.

I disagree that it hinder progress. I think EVs have brought widespread interest and understanding, whereas Hydrogen fuelling is often still seen as Doc from back to the future stuff.

I personally think hybrids are a slightly-better-than-nothing-half-attempt. Charging infrastructure requires very little investment compared to Hydrogen (the power lines are all already there, just need the stations adding).

EVs are FAR better suited to a significant amount of trips by a significant number of people - but not all. If you live within 100 miles of work and commute (rather than drive all day in a work truck say), then an EV will likely work for you. If you do the school run and grocery shopping then head home - perfect!

I'd be interested in a reference for "scientists already know that we cannot do EV in the long term", i haven't heard that.

How well do EV work after a major storm comes through and takes out all the power for days? Kind of nice to have the old faithful diesel that can use to move trees, brush, people, etc. during an emergency.

EV may have their place but it isn’t every place.

EV’s are coming that is given based on current political climate.
There's the problem: this entire EV thing is driven by politics. Consumers have not demonstrated their preference for EVs in large numbers, but it's looking more and more as though they will be forced to switch either by outright prohibition of gas and diesel power, unrealistic fuel efficiency mandates, or politically triggered increases in fuel prices.
Electric propulsion of vehicles was not invented yesterday. There are reasons why petroleum has been dominant for so long. It remains the only sensible choice for serious users. An electric tractor might seem cool if you're a hobbyist, but not if you're depending on it to pull a 20-foot chisel plow all day so you can make a living. And can you imagine what kind of batteries and charging apparatus would be needed for a plugin locomotive?
EVs are not ready for prime time and might not ever be. The only way to find out is to make them compete in an unfettered market. But Americans seem content to let the dumbest people on earth dictate our choices, limit our mobility, and plunge the country into poverty. Heaven help us.
