Glad it's working out for you. Not so practical here in the west. CT is only about 150 miles corner to corner. In my old job, that was only 2 days commute.

There are definitely places where an EV can work out. Just don't try to push them on others.
I'll have to agree with this.

I lived in San Jose California in my early years and my folks lived near San Diego California. I took a job in Rhode Island (it's an actual state next to Massachusetts and Connecticut). I was talking to my neighbor one day and he made a remark about visiting my folks every weekend. After all, I lived in California and so did they, he just had no clue as to distances involved in the West. I've found that folks that have never been "out West" have no concept as to what the distances are like.

For example, coming down out of California and heading out across the salt flats, there is 80 miles between gas stations. You'll never find that on the East coast.

Have someone read you my post.
Costs are

Do you go into a store and the receipt say...variable? Variable refers to the difference in prices multiple people pay, but at the end of the day, one person only has one cost.

So again...what are your costs?

It case it wasn't obvious...your defensive posture was the ego that got hit.
Oh, gotcha, well my ego is OK if that's what you're worried about. Didn't mean for it to come off as defensive, it's just that these threads always turn into Groundhog Day where people go round and round chasing their tail.

Pro: EV's are cool, amirite?
Con: Ma grid! It's a conspiracy. Ma birds! Clean isn't clean. It's a fad! Whattabout dirty <someoneElse>? Mandates! Subsidies!
Pro: Well actually if you look at....
Con: But ma grid! It's a conspiracy. Mandates! Clean isn't clean....

And round and round we go. It's like debating whether a machine heavier than air is capable of flight as a 737 sails over your head.

saw a guy online from the US he did it with his side by side, very cool ... I didnt know such thing was possible.
In many states, it is not possible.

I looked into a solar install 10 years ago when I moved to the boonies. IIRC it was about $20k for 5 kw. Payback was about 20 years so I never did it.

I suspect technology has improved and costs are down, but I am now 71 so my payback time horizon is shorter. If I cannot pay an investment back in 10 years, why put up with hassle and risks of something "new and improved"?

I feel the same about EV's. I had a 1999 Mercedes that went 275k trouble free miles until I hit a doe and fawn. My old 94 Jeep went 250k miles. One of my current F150's has 162k trouble free miles. And I can get an ICE serviced almost anywhere if I cannot do it myself.

If I was trading vehicles every 4-5 years, long term viability would not be a concern, but I tend to keep vehicles a long time. One poster shared his wonderful EV experience after 3 years....now that was funny. I have a horror story of a Greenie who bought a used Prius and will never buy another.

As to the price of fuel. Wake up kiddies. Does anyone think that doubling of fuel costs in two years is normal? Go ahead and do your "economics" based on $4.50+ gas and current electrical costs. Things will likely change within a couple years. Electrical costs will definitely go up (and availability down). Gas will come down in price.

If the Greenies were clamoring for 25 new nuclear plants, it would be different. But there is no cheap energy coming for years and maybe decades.

I do wonder why more wind power is not installed around DC and the state capitols. There is an endless supply of hot air generated at those locations going to waste.

I'm beginning to think you're embarrassed of the price or ashamed.

I checked into a Tesla solar powered roof. 65K for a system designed for a 2300 sf home. Think I'll stay with the shingles.....

That sir is an excellent question! I've asked myself that before yet here I am. I guess deep down I feel people want to learn even though logically I know that's not true. People just want to be right and have their team win. I'm going to try to avoid these topics going forward - wish me luck.

We are all in the same team... good luck.

My experience has been that if you try to ask questions to learn about your concerns, all that you will get are smarmy answers such as yours. I've been interested in EVs since before that became a catch word; but am still waiting for them to become practical. If I spend $70,000 on a vehicle it's going to have a plow, dump body, and 15K< towing capacity... and a 20 thousand dollar rebate. To spend that kind of money for something just to drive around in is crazy.

I would not buy an EV right now, but a hybrid may pique my interest. I know that I am out of the new diesel truck market. The prices went stupid, and with the war on oil the investment seems to be bad. My old but clean and trusty Cummins powered Dodge should last me the rest of my life.

Can you get a new plow/dumper/towing capacity truck for that price?
