One day a no. of yrs. ago I heard crunching out side the basement dr. I was on crutches at the time and went to the dr. bent over to pet the cat but jumped back landed on my rear laughing loud enough my wife and daughter came running down to see if I was OK. A few days later I was prepared with a camera.

Pileated are the only woodpecker we have that goes at rotting stumps, on the ground.
They help me greatly to reduce the old stumps!
They are huge.
And there favorite food is carpenter ants so they clean the forest of dead trees. If they are on your favorite tree or wood siding, that is a bad sign.

We just returned from store and this bird was near house apparently not dead for long. Maybe it flew into a window? Is it a starling?
A black bird but lots of blue & purple colors in sunlight.
Seems fairly large, not a crow I don't think.

Whenever you rotary mow a field or cut hay it’s like a dinner bell for fox, hawk, eagle with all the mice you kick up

When I mow at night, it's not uncommon to have a coyote following me. They stay just at the edge of the lights and I only see them when I'm turning around. Sometimes there are two of them.

More common that seeing coyotes or armadillos, is seeing wild hogs when mowing at night. I carry a 44 mag revolver with me while I'm mowing and I've shot several hogs at 10 yards. For whatever reason, they seem to ignore all the noise when it's dark out. During the day, it's totally different. One night, I drove right through the middle of about 30 of them. I could have touched a few of them, I got so close!!!

We have turkey's and deer like that. You drive up on them on the machine, and they just continue as normal. You start getting off the machine, and ZOOM! they're gone!

I spotted this little moose on the side of the rd. one day run into a fence trying to get to it's mother on the other side.

I stopped jumped out and got this pic. as he was getting up.

When I loaded the pic. onto my puter I was surprised to see how his legs were tangled. The good news is he got untangled but I didn't wait around to see if he ever got over the fence to his mother.

I think I must have had spring fever because I ended up in Fort St John one Easter. This wasn't unusual for me because I traveled all over BC and Alberta working here and there a few mons. at different jobs eg. oil rigs ,pipe lines , construction. While there I met up with an Indian fella on crutches , we became friends and he asked me if I'd like to go trapping with him and his friends . I wasn't about to pass up and adventure.

Here's where we set up camp. The dog didn't belong to me but I was quick to make friends with him.
The boys here with a few beaver pelts.

They slept in the tent but I chose to sleep out side because the small wood stove smoked up the inside of the tent.
One day a moose wandered close to camp so as you can see we made quick work of butchering it. We kept 1 hind quarter took the rest to their family's.

The moose hide was going to be turned into a nice jacket for some one. The pelts that yr. turned out to be not worth getting at $5 to $10 each so we decided that was enough. I stayed another wk. or so visiting with them then they headed off for a fencing job and I headed to Alberta for a pipe line job.

Spring flowers starting to bloom. I don't know what these small purple flowers are (crocus?) but if you zoom in they're spreading all over the yard. They have a small bulb underground, I can't figure out why they spread.

Can't see the purple ones well enough to tell.

The last rays of the setting sun highlight the Tobin Range tonight, background for the Clear Creek Ranch in Nevada. About 5 miles south of my house.
