I have a hundred bucks here that say Hay Dude can deal with being called Hay *****.
Maybe, maybe not. But isn't the point that I shouldn't call him that? Isn't the point that if I do, I am doing it in a condescending manner?

How about if I call you Hay ***** rather than Hay Dude, is that okay?

Lol I dont have much choice 1000 miles away, but show up in front of me and say it and youll be in an F-350 red box truck with blinky lights on top. :)

Of course not ok, but thats exactly why we need moderation. Nobody wants it to go there.
You have to remember, while you may feel safe calling me names like that from a long distance, some members here live close to each other and it could escalate into a crime.

I know you wouldnt be calling me that if you lived 20 miles from me. :)

Is it a sign of weakness if one member has his personal information posted in a thread by another member?
Absolutely not. There needs to be a moderator to remove that immediately.

Objecting to name calling is a good thing. Its not a sign of weakness.
It keeps threads on topic and avoids having them turn into mud slinging
It keeps the overall sites image one where lurkers and the shy can feel like they can insert their opinions without being destroyed in public.
It prevents escalation into worse

I bet the $100 that without moderation, it turns into a free for all in a month.
I've had a member on here, not you, research me and post personal information about me in discussions. I find it weird and creepy and I've never felt the need to do it in return. Heck I don't even pay attention to post count. I only look at member's personal info listed on their posts if the discussion is about a specific piece of machinery. So I'll look to see what they own to know more about where their perspective comes from.

The best moderation, in my opinion, is the quality of forum members themselves. There will always be an odd member or two. If the majority are ok, it will maintain an even keel and facilitate the kind of discussions we all came here for. God did not make us all perfect men and women. Inclusiveness is not necessarily a bad thing.

My philosophy is type once, read twice, then hit post reply. This has saved me from posting some pretty stupid crap.

I often see things posted here that wouldn't be said face to face. For example, putting me in an F350 red box truck with blinky lights on top. :)

If I continually, intentionally insult members with sarcastic replies that cause discontent I should be removed from this site. That's where moderation comes in.

Nothing has ever been said to me on any social media site that would cause me to escalate into a crime. :)

Disagree. In a similar scenario, look at what defunding the police did in ‘20-‘21 in the big cities. Crime spiked.
Its the same thing here. If theres reduced or no guardrails, it’ll be the least common denominators running the show.
I can agree with letting more go in terms of politics, covid, media, etc. but I dont think losing grasp on civility is ever a way to go.
Make it a place where you can rip another person for their political, covid, social beliefs, etc., but NOT rip the person.

Personal information that you furnished yourself in this forum is not private. Why would you object to someone posting what you had published in public in the first place?

Is it alright if I copy/paste this for future use??? :) Well stated.

Great observation, but what if it wasnt ever published?
Like I said before, people can research on the internet and find out just who is who pretty easily.
I notice you dont publish your location. Your name is very discreet, has nothing to do with your occupation, hobbies, etc.
Is that because youre afraid someone might be able to find you elsewhere with research?
I dont know.
Maybe I should change my user name to AB222 and put “none” in my location, too.

Again, missed my point. I need to type more lengthy indepth points I guess.

The information they dug up they got by Google searching and spending quite a bit of time narrowing things down until they found me. Then they threatened me with that information. It doesn't make me scared or worried. People that do things like that have little backbone. They are only doing it because as Hay Dude says, they know I'm not going to come looking for them. It's why some members are very discreet about themselves and won't even disclose what State they are in. That's okay. I just don't live in that fear.
