Well when you own the bar you have to pick up the pieces, get rid of problem customers, then attract new customers. It’s a hard line between letting the boys be boys and keeping an establishment where folks want to come in and have a $5 beer.

It is a absolutely a personal responsibility and choice in my opinion. But, also in my opinion, the societal influences outside of religious and family inputs are nearly completely counter to that. Troubling for my generation but scary for the next generation…also in my opinion.

I often say, I'm not worried in old age. My Sons will take care of me. I'm not sure about the next generation. But that's not my concern. That's for my Sons to teach.

If it doesn't bother you, then you are emotionally stable. The need for moderation is to protect the emotionally unstable. So, in order to cater to the the weak, this forum must moderate the strong.

It's no fun going to a moderated bar where folks are only allowed milk just because some people can't handle a shot of good whiskey.

Absolutely not. There needs to be a moderator to remove that immediately.

Objecting to name calling is a good thing. Its not a sign of weakness.
It keeps threads on topic and avoids having them turn into mud slinging
It keeps the overall sites image one where lurkers and the shy can feel like they can insert their opinions without being destroyed in public.
It prevents escalation into worse

I bet the $100 that without moderation, it turns into a free for all in a month.

Funny story about that. Decades ago. Local small town bar owner didn't allow swearing. One Saturday afternoon a good friend and I were the only people in the bar, sitting at a table in the corner quietly talking. He was having trouble with his dump truck engine. Didn't have the money to put in a new engine. I waved to the owner to bring us a couple more beers. As she walked up to the table Kirk quietly said "I don't know what the Hell I'm going to do". She slammed the beers down on the table and sternly said "NO CUSSING". We looked at each other, both shrugged, gathered up our unspent money and walked out.
